In Your Opinion...

Ok, here's the deal. I'm about to order a set of the Klipsch Promedia 5.1's for 400.00, I hear great things from Klipsch and their products are supposed to be awesome. But I'm also hearing a lot about the Boston Acoustics BA4800 system, and it's only around 100.00. So I was wondering if it would be worht it to buy two sets of the Boston Acoustics for an 8.2 Surround Sound System and save 200 bucks or just stick with the Klipshc speakers. I know that sound is subjective, but if faced with this in general what would you do?

any computer speaker system for 400 bucks is a rip off in my opinion. You might as well save up another few hundred bucks and get a DTS receiver with a pair of REAL speakers. I would go with the BA's.

The Klipsch will definitly kick. Where are you buying yours, BTW? If you have the cash to lay down, get the Klipsch. No doubt about that. The bass is incredible and the sound....well.......ummm....it's very very good. 😀 It's Klipsch, you know it's going to be good.

I can tell a big difference when I run PowerDVD in Surround Sound on my BA4800s and my Cambridge Soundworks *cough* DTT3500s. When Dolby Digital kicks in, these DTT3500 buggers rock! The bass is a lot lower and the Dolby Digital 5.1 is very impressive stuff. For music, they're ok. But my guess is that the Klipsch will be great all the time. I plan to buy these later down the road. 😀

Good luck with your new speakers man!

"Boston Acoustics for an 8.2 Surround Sound System"

WTH is a 8.2 system? There is no such thing. Industry standards are 2, 2.1, 4, 4.1, 5.1, and 6.1 (which IMHO is a joke).

There is no reason that you need 2 SubWoofers as long as you place your 1 Sub correctly (2.1, 4.1, 5.1). Unless perhaps you live in an apartment and hate your heighbours (below you) then maybe you could use (but still don't need) a second sub. And what are you going to gain by having 2 of each output? (8 only gives you 2 Front Right, 2 Back Left, etc, etc...)

I dont understand you people... why would you even think about paying $400 for computer speakers! You can get a real audio system for a little more.

BTW

You really should read up about what the 5.1, 4.1 etc actually mean. It isn't just the fact that you have 4 or 5 speakers and a sub. 5.1 means that you have 5 speakers that are each on separate audio channels, meaning that they can play distinct sounds at the same time... that is how you can tell that something is moving towards you from behind or whatever when watching a dvd on a good Dolby Digital 5.1 system. Honestly, i wouldn't buy even the $100 BAs because you know that you are getting seriously ripped off, save a bit more money, buy a digital receiver (i recommend onkyo) and some real speakers (bose, klipsch (not PC speakers), Acoustic Research, etc.) and dont waste your money on PC speakers.
