I like the apple powerbooks but I don't think they will get all with his windows based systems at work.

ibm
apple
dell

in that order. ibm because they are rock solid and well built

apple because of similar reasons

dell because they're cheap and fast (i like the latitude line better than inspiron, they feel higher quality)

I agree, the IBM ThinkPad T series is an awesome laptop. If your father wants quality, that's what he should buy.

Apple & IBM are the top two.

I've got to chime in for IBM again too. The ThinkPads are built like tanks, they have by far the most solid chassis of any laptop I've used (Dell, Toshiba, Apple), and I cannot find any fault with IBM's service and support, their techs are top-notch and I've never waited more than 10 minutes for anything no matter when I called.

ZV <--Loves his ThinkPad A21p.

i've used toshiba, IBM, dell, and Sony

I prefer sony out of all of em..
the built in memory stick reader is really comfy .. :) i have DV camcorder and DSC-F505V :)

I had previously Toshiba Satellite S503 or something .. with built in smart media reader and firewire.. it was nice too as it also had GF2GO :)

I've used my gf's dell and it was okay...

Ibm my buddy has and it's really light and portable .. but it's too expensive imo
