1)this quote from omegas home page
"The Omega Drivers have been recognized by ATI as the best modded drivers in the Internet!!!
Here is a quote from Terry Makedon when he was interviewed by a German Magazine:
"ATI supports the enthusiast community wholly. Omega Drivers are in fact a good example of ATI's user community at its best. What they are in principle are CATALYST drivers with different settings enabled via registry keys and other such methods. This provides users an alternative to ATI's CATALYST default settings. While there are a few different modification drivers out in the community our relationship with the creator of the Omega Drivers is of the highest working standard. The author of these drivers is part of the CATALYST beta driver testing team and also in direct contact with ATI. In fact we would go so far as to say that if a user chooses to go the mod driver route they go with the Omega Drivers." "
In short I would say they simply offer you an alternative if ati drivers are causing you problems.
2)As I recall the only problem the .net install created for me was that it wanted me to logon all the time. I just deleted the .net account and it went away.
3)No, I am using radeon 9600 and 9800.

RADEON OMEGA DRIVERS F.A.Q.
What are The Omega drivers?
The purpose of the Omega Drivers is to provide gamers with an alternate set of drivers, ones that have more options and features than the original sets. The drivers contain optimizations, extra features (like OC capabilities), more resolutions and internal tweaks that can give users the edge in a gaming environment over the normal drivers, which are often tailored for synthetic benchmarks. All Omega driver sets are tested (unless noted) by myself in my own PC or in an alternate PC (in the case of the NVIDIA drivers) to ensure maximum compatibility and reliability.
Why should I use these over the official sets?
There is no need to use them, unless you are a person that is not satisfied with the word "default".
Will these drivers work with my Radeon XX from XX Company?
Yes, the drivers are compatible with ANY card that has the name Radeon on it.
Will these drivers work on my laptop model XX?
Yes, as long as the laptop has an ATI video chipset from model M6 and up.
Does installing the Omega Drivers will void my warranty?
No, a driver set is just software, software does not void a warranty, only hardware modifications or flashing the card?s bios may void the warranty.
Can I install the Omega Drivers over the official drivers?
Yes, just make sure you remove the ATI Control Panel or CCC from the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs before installing.
Can I install the Omega Drivers over other Modified sets?
Yes, but the procedure here is a little more complicated since other modified sets may contain strange or non-functional tweaks in them, so the best way to upgrade from another third party driver set is to do the steps found just below, in the full uninstall procedure question.
How do I install the Omega Drivers?
Just download the desired driver package from my site, run the file and follow the on-screen instructions carefully.
After installing the Omega Drivers on my laptop it crashes whenever I try to watch a video file or DVD...
The cause IS NOT the ATI drivers or any of my settings, the cause is a hardware bug, more specifically a BIOS bug. In the testing, many people already updated their notebooks with a new BIOS provided by their laptop manufacturer and the video problem is GONE! So I encourage you to go to your manufacturer's web page and see if a new bios update has been issued for your laptop, and if not, e-mail the manufacturer so they can rush out a fix for this. Sorry, but if they can't fix this, there is nothing me or ATI can do about it.
I already have a previous version of the Omega Drivers installed, what is the easiest way to upgrade to a new Omega set?
Just uninstall Radlinker (if it is installed) and the old setup tools from the start menu, then install the new set on top of current one, no need to uninstall it first, it will self-upgrade.
I installed the drivers, but now my screen is slow and choppy, not even my games work, what I did wrong?
You did nothing wrong, is just that one of two things happened after installation:
1. The SmartGart service did not initialize.
2. SmartGart disabled AGP support because it found a problem.
For case 1, make sure the "SmartGart" service is enabled and set to Automatic, also try starting the service manually, then restart your PC.
For case 2, make sure you have the latest motherboard AGP chipset drivers installed; they can usually be found at the motherboard?s manufacturer page or you can get them directly from the chipset supplier, like Intel, VIA, NVIDIA, etc.
I downloaded and installed the latest chipset drivers, but still have no AGP support...
Try re-installing the drivers on top now (don?t uninstall them first) and see if SmartGart gets initialized this time (there should be a black screen refresh right after reboot).
What can I do if everything in the SmartGart tab is grayed out?
Find the "Advanced SmartGart Options" in the start menu and run it, then click on "Retest All", press OK, then restart when prompted.
The Advanced SmartGart Options is not working, nothing happens when I click it...
Make sure the SmartGart service is enabled and set to automatic, if not, set it to Automatic and restart.
Can I install and use CCC with the Omega Drivers?
CCC will work with the Omega Drivers, but is NOT recommended that you install it, all the functions found in CCC are already included with ATI Tray Tools or will be included in a near future as this CP project develops.
I?m experiencing the 60Hz refresh rate bug after installing the drivers...
In Windows 2k/XP, ALWAYS disable DDC in the ATI "Displays/Monitor" CP after installing drivers to be able to use ALL the refresh rates and resolutions your monitor supports.
Why my Windows desktop goes into panning mode when I select a custom resolution?
With the new resolutions I added some people may experience a "virtual" desktop when selecting those resolutions (960x720, 1280x960, 1360x1020, 1400x1050 and 1520x1140), the problem is that your monitor's INF file is ONLY reporting the supported resolutions to Windows and ONLY those resolutions will be chosen when Windows changes the resolution. If a resolution is NOT in the monitor's supported resolutions list, then Windows will set one of the monitor's resolutions and change to your selected resolution, but in a virtual desktop.
There is a way to fix it:
1- Make sure you monitor is identified as Plug & Play or using your Monitor driver.
2- Right Click an empty space in your desktop and click PROPERTIES, in the display properties, click the followings: SETTINGS, ADVANCED, DISPLAYS, MONITOR. On monitor attributes, you will see that "USE DDC INFORMATION" is marked, and you will also see that the maximum resolution and refresh rate for your monitor are selected. Uncheck "USE DDC INFORMATION" and click APPLY.
Now you can select ANY resolution used in my drivers with no virtual desktops.
What is this "Multires" and how can it help me?
Multires is a utility used to change desktop resolutions and refresh rates on the fly. It is also the only way to display all resolutions that you monitor supports since Windows hides some of them by default.
This utility also supports refresh rate locking that will work for both D3D and OGL games.
How do I setup and lock the desired refresh rates in Multires?
Just keep changing your desktop to all available resolutions (doesn?t matter the bit depth) in Multires and select a refresh rate value for each one. After all are done go back to your preferred desktop resolution, then go to the "About Multires" option and click on "Lock Refresh Rates". This is done only once, now it doesn?t matter how many drivers changes you make, you will keep your monitor settings like you want them as long as the Multires folder is not deleted.
Note: The resolution/refresh info is stored by Multires in a file called "MultiRes.ini" inside the Multires folder; this is the file you must backup if you want to keep your monitor settings in case of a reformat or wipeout.
I?m having problems with XX game, what can I do?
If the same problem happens with the official ATI drivers (same version my set is based on), there is nothing I can do about it, is a driver specific problem, not something that can be fixed using a special tweak.
I?m having problems with XX game in my laptop, what can I do?
The Omega Drivers make possible that the latest ATI drivers can be installed successfully on any Mobility powered laptop, but I can't guarantee full compatibility with games or other laptop features, sorry.
The Special Counter Strike driver is not accepting any changes using the new CP layout...
Since the menu changed, all of the commands in the CP that control AA/AF/V-Sync/etc. will NOT work with the Special CS driver. The reason is that the file used for CS is an old OGL file and the new CP uses NEW registry keys to control the D3D and OGL settings, but in order to control them, the driver needs to recognize these commands. The default internal setting for the Special OGL file is all High Quality, no AA/AF/V-Sync.
What is the full uninstall procedure I must follow if I want to remove the XX drivers from my system?
Before you start this full uninstall procedure, make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Driver Cleaner; if you are using my drivers then a special version of Driver Cleaner is already included.
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs section.
2. Uninstall the ATI Control Panel or Catalyst Control Center, don?t restart.
3. If uninstalling the Omega Drivers, uninstall Radlinker (if using an old driver set).
4. Uninstall the existing driver set, restart.
5. Boot your PC in safe mode.
6. Run Driver Cleaner, restart afterwards.
7. If uninstalling the Omega Drivers, now uninstall the Setup Tools from the Start Menu.
8. Now you can install any driver you like.
I uninstalled the drivers, But why does the Windows keeps finding the Omega Drivers even after using Driver Cleaner and/or clearing the registry?
There are some files that Windows saves for backup purposes that cannot be removed by any means, except manually, here is how to find them and remove them:
1. Open Windows Explorer and go to the "Windows\Inf" folder.
2. Do a search inside it for "A word or phrase in a file", type OMEGA and click search.
3. In the search results box delete all the files with the name "OEM##.INF", where ## can be any number...
4. Now remove the video card(s) from the Windows Device Manager and restart.
After restart Windows will now detect and use a Standard VGA, after that you can install any driver set.
What if I like to use tools like Rage3D Tweak or ATITool to alter my personal video settings?
Using 3rd party tweak programs like these ones "could" alter some of the tweaks that I have implemented internally in the drivers, specially if they include predefined profiles, so I don't personally recommend to use them along with my sets. ATT offers all the video options you may need to tweak your card to the max.
Do Omega Drivers offer users the ability to change the latency of their Radeon like other tools do?
They don?t offer the ability to change it manually, but they already include an internal tweak that forces the card to use the motherboard?s bios AGP latency value, and since most motherboards already set the latency to 32, this is the latency you will get in windows.
What does the T2 and T3 value in the "Full Scene Anti-Aliasing" setting mean?
Those additional settings are the "Temporal Anti Aliasing" values, they control the TAA multiplier. The TAA value found in normal ATI drivers is equivalent to the T2 value found here, this will effectively multiply the FSAA value by 2, that means, if you set the FSAA value to 4xT2, you will be getting 8xFSAA at the same speed of 4x. The T3 value is just an experimental option that multiplies the TAA by 3, that means if you use 4xT3 you would be getting 12xFSAA, but it may or may not work for some of you, all depends on what type of card, monitor and refresh rate combination you use.
What is the difference between Anisotropic Quality, Performance and Forced?
The Performance and Quality options found here do the same function as in the normal ATI drivers, Performance mode uses bilinear filtering while Quality uses an optimized trilinear filtering mode that is angle dependant. The new Forced mode behaves just like the Quality mode, but it "forces" full trilinear filtering with no optimizations on any game. Some games, like Halo, can see great benefit from this setting since the game always forces bilinear filtering. This mode is also a little slower than the normal Quality setting.
I am experiencing XX problem when AI is set to High, How come?
AI is still in beta stage, some problems may show up until it matures, like stuttering, really bad texture rendering and corrupted in game text. If you experience any problems just use the normal setting, which is the one ATI has been using since they introduced the Catalyst drivers.
What happens if I disable AI?
All game specific optimization will be disabled, along with any global optimizations ATI made to the anisotropic filtering algorithms.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally they have worked well for me
