In WinXP, how do you turn off that junk that pops up when you put in a CD?

You know, that menu with a list of options that pops up every time you insert a CD? I select "do nothing" and check the don't ask me again box, however the heinous thing still pops up every time. WinXP has a quirky way of forgetting your preferences....

:disgust:

Help?

I don't have my XP machine in front of me now, but right-click on the CD drive in My Computer and choose "Properties..." There should be some AutoPlay tab.

Thanks guys!

Man, that was a PITA. For each CDROM, there was a dropdown menu of 5 different CD types. For each one, you had to select, uncheck "prompt me every time", and select the action that it should take for each individual type of media. MS must be in bed w/ Realmedia...

If this is XP Professional, you also could have done this:

Go to Start>Run and type gpedit.msc

When the Group Policy Editor opens, go to Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>System

Find the option for "Turn off autoplay" and enable it.

This only works for XP Professional because the Group Policy Editor is not in XP Home.
