In this box you put the message title, you know: ti·tle A descriptive name; an epithet.

You know what would be cool, if the summary took the first couple of words from the actual post. Is it really nessary to summarize a Topic, considering that is usualy what a Topic Title is for?

Except that lots of people around here evidently don't know what a title is really supposed to be used for. :roll:

What I've seen some forums do, is make a tooltip that shows the first little bit of the post when one hovers over the link. This might be a good "replacement" for the topic summary, at least for those who think the summaries are cluttering and useless (I, OTOH, don't really care either way). An idea for a future Fusetalk, Jason? 😉
 
We wont replace topic summary as alot of other big boards use it as well, prefilling the summary with part of your post, eh that doesnt make a whole lot of sense to do automatically as many users won't want that.

Yeah, it's certainly become apparent in the past few days that you can't please everyone.

Anyway, I'm happy with the Title and Topic Summary thing as it works now; I was just throwing around some ideas that might be more pleasing to others.
 
I don't think some people understand that the Topic Summary is an optional field. You aren't required to put anything there, so if you're just going to copy your title, or the first few lines of your post, just leave it blank.

I for one intend to use it for thread updates and such.
"Oops, repost."
"Update: Pics added"
"Nevermind, a bunch of assholes hijacked my thread!"
You know, stuff like that. 😉
