Street prostitution yields an average wage of $27 an hour, hardly worth it considering the extraordinary occupational hazards.

What's particularly interesting is the authors' section on bargaining and the law. They estimate that roughly 3 percent of all tricks performed by prostitutes who aren't working with pimps are freebies given to police to avoid arrest.

Well, the bunny ranch attracts a bit higher class customers as well as providers. What's a crack whore supposed to do?

In a free market there would obviously be brothels catering to customers of different incomes. Of course even the bargain basement whores would still have to be drug tested, mostly to protect against spreading disease. There will always be poor folks on crack but if you can get your rocks off legally, even at a "low cost buy one whore get your second whore free 0% financing" then the crack whores would probably have to just stick to stealing. But since some women are made into whores and take drugs to cope with the shitfest that is their life, legalizing prostitution would cull a good amount of the crack whores out.
