What is everyone's thoughts on Grid? I have not really played an arcade racing game since NFS 3 on PS1 and recently really loved Motorstorm for PS3 so now I am looking at what there is to offer on this front on the PC. I am not really looking for a Sim or something where you have to spend alot of time in menus adjusting a drive shaft- I just want something I can get in and go. What are my options? Thanks.

Sylvanas.

For the record, I bought a wheel.

Makes the game alot harder, but also alot more intense.

GRID has that awkward central axle system that makes the car physics feel really weird. I took the demo for a run and then bought myself a 360 and Forza 2. :p

I'm a hardcore sim racing sucker. GTR2, rFactor, you know the drill.

But I had to give GRID a shot, to be honest. Those beautiful graphics and my shiny new 3870 were praying for it!

And to be honest, I really like it. Yes, the car behavior sometimes is weird. Yes, sometimes the game "saves" you from some wild moves that would kill you in a racetrack. Yes, you can't adjust your car. So what? It's a 50% simulator, 50% arcade game with stunning graphics and a GREAT single player mode. And the most important thing? It's FUN. Fun as hell, both for those who have never played a racing game or for more experienced "drivers". Get a decent wheel to play it! It's a terrific game, period. And in the "Extreme" mode, with no driver aids, is very challenging. I love it like that.

Racing through La Sarthe on a LMP1 prototype is priceless!

Yeah I'm a sim fan, but DiRT and GRID just kind of fill the 'fun' niche nicely. I just wish GRID had a full Nürburgring track.

It would be badass. That, and a more powerful single seater. :D Some sort of F1 knockoff.

Also, no Monza was a bit of a turnoff. But La Sarthe more than made up for it!

How arcade-ish is Grid? I'm really looking for something that's just fun to drive, something like Burnout, just not as wild and actually focused on racing not crashing.

If GRID was 100% arcade, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

It's much more realistic than Burnout. Certainly more realistic than any NFS game out there too. For instance, excessive braking will lock your wheels and put you out of control. Accelerating too hard out of corners will make your wheels spin and make your car fishtail. Being too aggressive with the steering into a corner will make your car understeer, and won't turn in efficiently. Unless you enable the driver aids of course, which makes it much more easy. The game rewards those with smooth driving styles. And the AI is aggressive, but not excessively; it won't punt you out of the race on purpose (except for the demolition derby event, of course :D) and it will respect you if you're overtaking.

It will satisfy what you want. It definitely focuses on pure, balls to the wall racing, besides a few events like the drifting series in Japan. And you won't have to fiddle 45 minutes trying to find the perfect brake balance, ride height or gear ratios. Simple, but effective and rewarding. It's fun!

You can adjust some settings in Grid such as breaking assistance which impacts how "arcade-like" the controls are. But really, everything from the graphics and sound to gameplay is just awesome. Of date, I've never enjoyed a racing game as much since NFSU 2. And since I'm an Initial D fan, the mountain pass runs are very enjoyable for me.

Agreed. The NFS series is just a continuing epic fail. GRID actually brought me back into the whole arcadeish racing game genre. Great game and lots of fun. I bought a wired 360 controller for this game and Lego Indiana Jones. Both work great under Vista 64 with Crossfired 4850s
