In the market for an LCD.

I've already searched the threads under a majority of anandtech's sections. I still have a couple questions that can hopefully be answered here. (I apologize if some of these questions have already been asked, but I'm on a modem and really do not feel like digging through hundreds of posts about LCDs, although I've read a good amount of them already 🙂).

My price range for an LCD is $400-600 and I ONLY want a 17'' - 18'' LCD.

My impression is that the best LCD's for the price that don't ghost while gaming or watching DVDs have been the Planar and the KDS. Are there any other suggestions that I may have missed out there?

Also, is it worth it to buy and LCD right now? Do you think the price will be driven down further in the near future? Right now I'm using a very very crappy 17'' Proview monitor. It has come to the point to where it is becoming unbearable to look at, thus the reason I am in the market for an LCD. The reason I ask this is because I have been noticing the 15'' LCD's have been dropping in price.

Where can I buy a Planar or a KDS, or the one you may suggest? So far I have only heard of dell and OD as places to buy them online. Do you think B&M stores would carry them cheaper?

My questions are quite novice...I guess what I am looking for is reassurement that I will be making a sound investment if I were to buy an LCD within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks

This week Price Costco has Envision 17" LCD for $479. I purchased one for my father, and although this monitor has only analog output, I must admit it is very nice. Very bright and clear picture and definitely better than Viewsonic G773 he had before. After I looked at his monitor I even started to think about getting one for myself as well 🙂

If you read this article, you'll see that the new FFD technology will be mass-marketed first quarter of 2002. It may be worth the wait...

I've got the Planar 17.4" LCD that I got from Dell and it kicks some serious butt. It replaced a Iiyamma CRT I had and I will NEVER go back to a CRT. I even use the Planar for gaming!
