In the market for a new video camcorder. What should I look for?

Well, last camera my family had we got in 1991 I think it's time for a new one...but what features should I look into. Should I buy online? I think the budget I'm working w/ is around 600.

Canon ZR40

Panasonic PV-DC152

OK, How bout these two models?

Panasonic PV-DC252

The JVC has a bigger CCD or whatever..but the panasonic looks to have more features...and is Mic in important?

"Mic in" is only important if you ever want/need to plug a mic into the camera.

I'd suggest trotting over toc|net.com and reading their reviews. They are usually pretty on the spot.

well what will you be doing with the camera?

amateur video editing? or just special occasions?

Pure amateur stuff. I may in time, make short films. The fact that it takes stills is not really an important factor.
