I am in the market for an AMD 1.4 GHz (266 FSB) DDR compatable motherboard. I was looking at the one recomended by AMD, a GigaByte board (GA-7DX), is that any good? I have read many posts saying buy EPox. I need a stable, warrantied (for at least a year), board with at least 2 DDR slots for no more than $175. Any ideas???

Thanks!

Raid??? Yes? No? Anyone? The computer is primarily gaming and movies. Would it be worth it to go with the Raid??? The Epox 8K7A looks like the one I'm going with.

Thanks!

some people love raid, i dont find much use for it. it can really be a pain

plus for games and movies you wont really notice much dif with raid. maybe if you were really into video editing or high end 3d work, then maybe raid is something you could take advantage of

In addition to using the RAID controller for RAID, it can also be used as regular IDE controllers and therefor you can have up to 8 IDE devices on your system. So, even if you don't think you will use RAID itself, the controller might be nice to have.

Toksin,

I am the same type "user" as you are. I ordered the Epoc because of the many good reviews and comments by fellow builders on the excellent build success. I feel the raid isn't necessary if you have a burner, second drive, other storage to protect important data. I hope you have good success I'll probably be posting my results in the next few days.
Pick your heatsink/fan carefully! Especially if you plan on o/c'ing!!

Again, Good luck
