If you want to stay around $1300, the ST30 is the best for the money. There are good options if you want to pay more (Samsung D7000, Panny GT30, etc), but that's up to you.

There is also the VT30 which is arguably the best plasma now, however it is quite a bit more expensive than the ST30 or GT30. It uses a single sheet of glass compared to two sheets of glass like the ST and GT30. This allows for a wider viewing angle without the double images effect. Now when I say wider viewing angle, I mean you almost have to be at an 80 degree angle to see double images on the ST or GT30. The VT30 also provides better 1080p/24 support as it can refresh at 96Hz compared to the ST and GT's 60Hz.

If you can wait till December. Vizio has a 55" TruLED (full array) with 4 pairs of Active Shutter glasses and Via Plus (Google TV built in).

The XVT3D556SP.

At least when you do decide to use it for 3D programing you won't be loosing picture detail like with Passive Glasses that halves the HD resolution & uses a low pass filter on the screen that looses 2D picture as well.

I'd wait and keep an eye on it and the competition.

LG 60" was the best. i sold the wifi adapter. I sold the glasses . got $150 for that junk bringing my cost down to $1100 shipped. lol. shutter 3d sucks.

if you do 3D make sure its the REAL3D (lcd probably) that uses passive glasses.

Not Passive. Shutter. Well neither is perfect but all Passive sets even in 2D use a low pass filter that loses fine detail on the sets.

As Robert Heron says really any 3D set you are getting you are beta testing until the tech improves.

More info here here: http://revision3.com/tekzilla/amd-cpu/3d-active-or-passive

So if you want the best 2D/3D set. Make sure it's Active Shutter. You don't have to use the 3D and when you do at least it will be in full HD unlike Passive.

I got my P60ST30 for $1499 at 24 month no interest financing last Friday. You can get them to price match to get it at that price. Check camelcamelcamel.com for an amazon price history of an item.

I got the ST30 over the GT because everything I read said that the performance difference when calibrated properly is so negligible that it's not even worth considering the GT.

I love my set and am currently running the burn-in slides for the first 100 hours to make sure the phosphors burn evenly.
