All right.

Part one.

I have an extra week of vacation this year (5-year anniversary, bump to 4 weeks a year, woohoo.) Christmas will be the voluntarily entered torture of family holidays, but I'm taking a vacation this summer for myself. I've never had a vacation where I didn't work for a family member, work on somebody's computer, or end up driving home. I want to do something fun for myself.

So my ideas, in no particular order. San Diego, South Padre Island, The Caymans, Zihuatanejo . . . any other ideas?

Part two.

I have three sets of friends who would like to come visit me. Two of them indicated that they would like to visit me sometime this summer, and asked, "When would be a good time for us to visit?" Nice of them, because I'll be gone for a week in July and two in June. So we hammered out when I'd be around and when I wouldn't.

The third friend went about it totally differently. They basically said, "I'm coming out this time, see ya then." I was taken somewhat aback, and I said, "Well, my parents will be visiting at that time. I'd love to see you, but I don't think I'd be able to pay the proper attention to them or you if you were both here at the same time." So now this person is pissed at me because I don't want them to come. Am I right in saying that it's not courteous to find out with somebody before planning to make a cross-country trip to stay with them?
