In-store assembly of items

For my birthday earlier this month, my wife bought me a nice ... NICE grill from Lowes. Yesterday would have been my first opportunity to use it, a couple strip steaks for me and her, and some apple-chicken sausages for my kids.

Lowes was out of stock on the grill, but gave a 20% discount on the floor model. It was in excellent shape, and since Lowes would have assembled a new box anyway, my wife went with it.

Roll up to last night, I hook up the tank, and open the tank valve - and hear a small hiss. So I checked the fittings for leaks, everything was fine. So I re-attached the tank to make sure I was fully on thread, and opened the valve... still hearing gas flowing. Checked all the burners making sure they were off - at this point I'm smelling a bit of gas, so I know there's got to be a leak somewhere.

I stick my head under the side-burner and hear even more flow... so I look around... whomever assembled the thing never put the connecting hose from the side-burner to the main burners. It wasn't on at all... and missing too. I might as well have just opened the valve on the tank without hooking it up!

Good thing I didn't try to match light the grill.

IN 2003 I bought a brand new house... I mean, JUST BUILT new. Lowes installed the washer and dryer. The laundry room in this house is upstairs. Anyway, fast forward to two days later when I decide to do the first load of laundry. THings go fine until the washing machine reaches the stage where it expels the water. Suddenly there's the sound of water splashing all over the floor. Lowes forgot to hook up the damn escape hose!! The whole hose wasn't even there! The washer sat there and spat out umpteen gallons of water straight onto the floor. soapy, dirty water. It quickly flooded out into the carpeted hallway, and even soaked THROUGH the floor and started dripping from the ceiling on the first floor. The washroom was over the garage, and water was dripping OUT FROM the garage light sockets. I also had my Miata in there with the convertible top down... and it too got soap water collecting on the seats. Not to mention, all the boxes of unpacked housewares.

I was just a little pissed. Lowes paid for full reconstruction of that whole area of the house. Also paid for a full detail on the Miata, gave me cash for some damaged items, and I have 10% off everything for life. Not that it matters because I refuse to shop there now.

egads, you use auto shutoff/metal sheathed hoses for that washer too right? a burst could do it to you again. don't use the cheap rubber/plastic stuff that comes with washers! it was on dateline or something showing the damage that could happen....

Wow, I agree too, I'm surprised they agree to work things out without trouble! I would have expected them to not do anything at all in this case. If they were competent, they would have tested the different cycles to make sure it works.
