In retrospect I'm actually glad Obama won

Thus far he has pretty much continued the tone and theme of his campaign (for the most part; I think the national security briefings were a wake-up call to him, which explains his picks for those cabinet positions).

McCain, on the other hand, is already distancing himself from campaign mode, backing off of the stronger positions he took on immigration for the campaign.

Say what you will but I personally would rather have a man of principle who means what he says than someone who moderates a position because it's highly unpopular, then goes back to it down the road.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, "Maverick". :|

McCain stopped being mavericky long before the campaign, so I'm glad pretending to be so failed for him.

If we'd had a choice between the McCain of (say) 2000 and Obama then I might regret his loss.

With you 100% ...

Mac was the Man in 2000 - "agents of intolerance" FTW

Then he flipped and embraced Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, et al, for political expediency.

Then he flipped on the Bush tax cuts, kow-towed to Bush on torture, flipped on immigration (and probably a good dozen more ...)

Obama will go far with McCain (if Mac returns to his old form) in the Senate. Johnnie has to like Obama on legislative pork ...

Yummie - LOL

I don't think McCain has what it takes to effectively lead this country. Palin certainly doesn't.

Possibly, but perfection wasn't the claim in the OP:

McCain on the other hand had thrown away most of his old principles before the campaign started, and only increased his pandering as it continued. Sarah Palin, QED.

Don't you think it's too early to celebrate your ignorance? Not to mention BHO has not even been in office yet. I mean not even a day! One thing for sure, BHO is not even sure if his handle of the economy is going to cost $800B, $1T, $1.2T or who knows. Or if this will even create or save 3M jobs! There's no reason to even mention the Maverick because he already conceded. The focus now is did you and the rest of your liberal buddies voted the right person? I hope you guys did which we'll find out soon!

McCain was a poor choice in 2008 regardless of one's political views.

Agreed.

Given that the Mac of 2000 was obviously capable of becoming the Mac of 2008, he probably never was who his admirers thought he was.

mccain acted like a baby during the campaign, and so did everyone else supporting it.

Yeah, McCain 00 was certainly a much more interesting and worthwhile candidate than 08 McCain. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed.

Politics is the art of the possible. So, yes, he subsumed some personal beliefs for the greater good, and has strongly continued down a moderate and inclusive path, which is absolutely what America needs after the divisive and extremist ideological idiocy of Republican rule.

Or don't you agree?

Yes, the country needs to be more united, but united in support for what is the question.

McCain has always been a arrogant hostile two faced guy who will say anything to get elected. Remember how much he threw that Veteran thing around while treating POW families like shit. But like it matters we have endemic problems which will make great depression look like a recession at least we have someone who can handle the stress up there.

Mac has been a douchebag since Keating. He was a maverick in 2000 because he was a longshot. If in some parallel universe he miraculously won the 2000 Presidential election, he would've transformed into McSame 8 years before he did here.

Sure, in some ways he could have been better than Bush. But there's still plenty to dislike about the man, whether we're talking about McCain 2008, McCain 2000, McCain "I dumped my loving wife for a beer heiress", McCain "Sing like a songbird at the Hanoi Hilton", etc.

You Americans did well this round.

I didn't think it would happen after the Bush Dynasties.

I think Obama will lift you out of the Dark Ages and bring about a new Age of Enlightenment.

LOL.

Psst, I voted for Romney in the primary. And I swallowed my bile and voted for McCain because of Palin. I'm hardly liberal.

Fixed. But yes, of course we don't care for candidates to lie about policies in the campaign.

Unless, of course, they change them to our views after.

 This was the McCain that I wish had been running. This is why I could not vote for him in the GE this time, unlike the 2000 primary...
