In pro billiards/pool...

Why do they separate the men from the women in any other sport? There is still a drastic difference between the sexes, as odd as the thought may be.

Because women are obviously not as good as men and it would be unfair to have them play a man?

While I agree for most physical sports I don't think pool should count as one.

I don't think strength is that important in pool...

Men, for the most part, are better at it. As a quick example, I think the highest run in straight pool by a woman is in the lower 100s and the highest for a male is in the 300s (maybe more). There are professional "open" tournaments that women can and do participate in, but they usually don't finish too well. I think Jeanette Lee and Alison Fisher have done well in some tournaments, but I don't think they've ever won any major ones.

And really, after Alison Fisher, Karen Corr, and Jeanette Lee, the competition really drops off in the women's WPBA and I don't think any of them could really compete on the mens side. But regardless, those women in the WPBA do pretty well in terms of money and sponsorships in their own setting and I don't really see a reason for them to jump over and compete in other leagues.

Actually, spatial intelligence is correlated with higher testosterone levels. This would explain the driving discrepancy as well.

easy question

far more men play pool than women. Thus there is higher competition for men than women, it would be unfair for some reason

i don't know if they should be seperated, obviously the physical side of thigns don't matter in pool but men and women do think differently and their stratagies might be diff?

Another "sport" where men and women are oddly separated is chess. Very few women can compete with the top men in chess either. As was pointed out above, it's probably more an issue of these being male dominated sports, thus promoting a higher level of competition amongst males, than it is an issue of genetics.
