in NYC, getting tickets to tapings for late night shows

called a few of the numbers to get tickets for tapings for late night shows like Conan. Everything's booked till september. Are there alternative ways to get these?

Someone told me you can get them by lining up outside the studio at 9 in the morning or something?

Stand-by tickets are available each tape day at the NBC Experience Store (49th st. and Rockefeller Plaza). Please note that a stand-by ticket does not guarantee admission.

Saturday Night Live
For stand-by tickets, arrive no later than 7:00am on the morning of the taping under the "NBC Studios" marquee on the 50th St. side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. You may choose a stand-by ticket for either the 8:00pm dress rehearsal or the 11:30pm live show. Only one ticket will be issued per person. also, there's a girl who stands in front of a hotel on broadway and 47th or 46th street with a clipboard during the day. she can hook you up with same day tickets to letterman if you fill out some form around 2, 3 pm. let me find out more about it.

if anyone's actually done standby before, when it says 9am for Conan, when do you actually have to be there? Is it one of those things where the line is already snaking around the block by 7?
