Well, here I am, 20 miles from the blackout, posting to you guys, Fitting that my post was titled "I'm so sad" because this SUCKS.

/backstory I'm supposed to go to NY for a week while parents go to india, and we're supposed to go to the actual city today. We left this morning at 10, it took us ~4.5 hours to get here.

So we try and do the ellis island/statue of liberty thing today. We go to Ellis island, and about 35 minutes into it, we get called to go outside, as there is an emergency and the museum is closing. Turns out that not only were we pushed outside, we had to stay in the sun for about 2 hours, then didn't get to see the statue, AND, on top of all of that, were denied refunds!!!!

Well, i have to say, the 2nd to last week of my summer break has been wasted

This power outage is one of the biggest ever recorded. It even affected me in Ontario (north) but our own "local" (Hydro One) plant is now up. Why can't it be like that in first place, everyone having their own plants? No, everybody in north america uses NY's power and we know it's about to blow, but that's fine, we'll just turn up the A/C. 😀

Too lazy to post everything here, but I have some coverage at my forum on this here:

They still don't know exactly what caused it, they think it's lightning, but it's been reported that it's not, but a plant near Niagra Falls went out and NY took over that part then it overloaded and went bang. Total neclear meltdown, 10 plants. I just wish the best to those that will be affected longer than us. (4 hours). We had 170 men trapped in mines durring this time but they had everything they needed to stay alive (pumped air, water).
