In need of cheap PC for my Aunt

xanis

Lifer
My Aunt is currently computer shopping. She hasn't owned a computer before, but she wants one now for email and web surfing and not much else. Because she's never owned a computer before, she'll need everything: PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, the whole kit and kaboodle. I looked at stuff from Dell and other places like eMachines and Acer but I haven't found quite what I'm looking for yet. Keep in mind that this needs to be as cheap as possible. Building a PC for her is also a viable option. Suggestions?

Actually it isn't.

Open up your Sunday paper, pull out the ads for:

Office Depot
Office Max
Staples
Best Buy
Circuit City
(insert consumer electronics store)

Find the cheapest PC with monitor. Buy it. Hook it up for your aunt. Write down the manufacturer's tech-support number on a Post-It note and stick it to the side of the monitor.

You can't build one cheaper than the office supply store and Dell prices, with a legal copy of Windows.

With a name-brand PC they also take care of support.

I believe Mac Minis are about $900. Definitely not cheap enough.
