In need of a new PSU

Well...the fan in my current PSU decided to die on me so i need a new PSU. Ive been looking at an aerocool turbine 550w which has everything i need but im really not sure about brands here. What brands are reliable? Ive been using antec for about 7 months and i found it kinda cheap that the fans died so quickly.

PC Power & Cooling and Seasonic PSUs are generally considered to be very reliable. I think most, if not all, of their PSUs have 3-year warranties and it's rare to read/hear about one failing.

Fortron and Enermax also have good reputations for reliability. Ditto Zippy, but I think Zippy is geared more towards the server market. Re Antec, some people swear by them and others swear at them. I've seen a number of "my Antec PSU failed" postings lately for whatever that's worth (it's not just you having bad luck, in other words). OTOH, you'll find people that say they've had Antec PSUs in their rigs for years with no probs. Depends on the model & series, I guess (and which OEM actually made the PSU for Antec).

A 400-watt or so PSU from PC P&C, Seasonic, Forton or Enermax should be very stable, reliable, and last you many years under reasonable conditions. PC P&C's Silencer series and Seasonic's S12 series will likely be the quietest and prolly the most efficient.

Incidentally, you don't need to waste your money on a 500-watt (or higher) PSU unless you plan to go SLI or Crossfire in the near future. A Seasonic S12-430, for example, will run pretty much any non-SLI or Crossfire computer out there and do so with headroom to spare. Very few computers are even capable of ever drawing more than ~250 watts max, and that's at peak. As you prolly know, as long as there are enough amps on the 12V rail(s) to handle your CPU and video card, you're good to go.

Good luck.

Seasonic power supplies are as reliable as any other high end PSU, but dead silent.

If silence doesn't matter, there are a variety of other high end PSUs - PCP&P, Forton, Enermax and others.

I personally like the enhance 5150gh psu. It can be found at ewiz for $80 shipped, has an 80% efficiancy, 18amps on each of the dual 12v rails, and a total of 500w, sli certified. Enhance is a high end company that offers great value and I think you'll find that many people here would vouch for them. Seasonic is awesome, best thing you can get without taking out a loan for a pc power & cooling and their dead silent, to my ear at least. JohnnyGuru didn't give the 430w s12 a favorable review but I've heard nothing but glee from owners of the 500w and 600w versions, not bad deals at $113 and $139 respectively. If you can sacrifice the weekly case of beer for a seasonic psu do it!

ive not had any problems with my seasonic or any of the fortrons ive used in about 6-7 systems over the years. Would go pcp&c, seasonic or fortron, depending on budget and features desired.
