Hi im still curious if this is a good build for gaming 2011-future games? from med to max settings

BUILD

Well now this build is for my brother and max price is up around $450 so....

I have a ATX case at my aunts that i will pickup sooner or later. I believe its a older unsupported Zalman case with a side windows and blue front and blue led fan on the side window.

He will want to play:

-Skyrim Med-Ultra with a few mods around 25-50 fps 25 being the lowest fps touched

-Tera On High With 30-60 fps 20 being the lowest fps touched

-Minecraft With Sonic's Shaders Mod (known to bring down gpus/cpus) on normal render distance with 20-50 fps

-Apd Reloaded on Med/High with 30-40 fps 20 being lowest fps

-Borderlands 2 on Med-Ultra with 30-45 fps 25 being lowest

-TF2 Maxed At 50-70 fps for recording

-Medium Photo Shopping (Waiting Sucks)

He is upgrading from a low end AMD APU Laptop. Which couldnt even run chrome with over 15 fps and the 1ghz processing unit was extremely slow.

Resolution At 1280x720 or 1900x600

I would like to purchase all parts from the Americas but i don't mind buying from Asia.

Possible date of purchase: before march

BTW: I am a neat freak so i tend to like the minimum amount of mess, like prefering modular PSUs. And glowing things look awesome

Win7 will be torrented then i will use his Win7 code and transfer it to the new computer.

Thanks

from the cards you listed I would easily choose the 550 Ti,
but why no 5770/6770 or 7750?

I'd go with a used 5770 off of eBay
This Build Is A Little Future Proof With The Board Able To Use Most Or All 1155 socket 3rd Generation CPUs and in the next 1/2 to 2 years i may move to a i5 2500k OCed
1. Please Stop Typing Like This
2. You won't be able to OC a 2500K on a H61 board, you'd need Z68 or Z77. However I don't think this should be a priority. You should be looking for the best bang for buck CPU and GPU performance, and include a monitor upgrade to with your next system upgrade

Sorry, its a old habit, i have to pay close attention and oh i cant overclock on a h61 board, too bad, well the upgrade from a g860 to a i5 processor should be more than enough of a boost. Moniter wise i'm ok with a 720p monitor and i may consider DVI if i upgrade hust quality i havent noticed any difference from vga amd dvi (probably because of i use a laptop). Thanks Alot

GTX 280 for $65 here:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2293377

You'll need 15 (or was it 25) posts to participate in the forum, though.
GTX 460 would be preferred from a power consumption point, but they're about the same speed.

Also, save a couple bucks and give yourself room to upgrade with this RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...4G3D1609ES2LX0
The motherboard you picked out only has 2 DIMM slots so filling them with 2GB is kinda silly.

A 280 Is better than I 460, im guessing,so ill check that out and i thought of getting 2 dimms instead of one for the dual channel? or something like that. Thanks

I suggest a slightly bigger rework of your build:

CPU: Intel Celeron G1610 2.6ghz. It may not be quite as fast as the G860, but it's close, it's only $50, and with the following mobo it's more upgradable:
Mobo: Biostar H77, $60AR from Micro Center (+$6 shipped).

Re: which GPU is better, don't guess. The 460 looks better to me (edit: than the 280).

Your wishlist link doesn't work, but I fixed it.

Now that I see what you have listed, you can surely get a better PSU. Here's a Corsair 500W for $30 AR AP. Also, here's a $50 3.5" HDD.

So that leaves $142 for a graphics card. Still out of 7850 range, unless you find a good deal used. But you're pretty close to being in range of a 6870 at $150AR.

I doubt you want to run single channel memory so get 2 dimms. Definitely go with the Corsair PS over RAIDMAX.

I don't see an OS listed, what do you plan to run on it.

Eh, there are worse things than single-channel RAM, especially if on a tight budget.

This is turning into a full build thread, so chibimike brings up one of [thread=80121]several questions it would be helpful for you to answer[/thread].

Single stick is better for the easy upgrade route to 8GB. The performance difference of dual-channel is negligible, and DDR3 is so cheap that it's basically pocket change to add another 4.
