In modern FPS games you're reloading constantly

Like, if you watch videos of Call of Duty or Destiny or Battlefield, most people will take like 3 shots, and then reload the entire magazine. In like 2 minutes you'll see 5 reloads.

How is that a compelling game feature?

You don't HAVE to reload that often, it's a common practice though because then you have a full mag for every encounter.

But sure, lets blame it on the developers

Would you rather have 9 bullets or 12 bullets in the clip when you start a gun fight?

If you reload at each chance then you are always ready to go. I personally don't have the greatest of aim so 10% more ammo ready to go may mean the difference.

Its always easy to spot the folks who learned about guns from Hollywood and not on a gun range.

The only game I can remember playing that had a memorable reloading mechanic is probably the original Gears of War, where strategic reloading awarded bonuses and failure resulted in a jam. IIRC you were encouraged to empty the magazine before reloading.

I forget which game it was (maybe it was Gears of War again), but if you loaded a new magazine, you did not get to keep the rounds left in the old magazine.

The problem with these types of gameplay is actual players hate it because it punishes you for playing smart and wasting ammo like that is a lazy move by the devs thus why so few games use it.

A fps should be about shooting things and not playing mini-games to just reload.

Gears of War is a very popular franchise.

And generally, this thread is full of a lot of ignorant people.

If "actual players" hated it, they probably would have removed it after 5 games in the franchise.

Oh, and Gears of War isn't an FPS.

Play Unreal Tournament then? There's probably at least 2 servers left...

But in all seriousness you push a button and it reloads the gun. Would you really want it to be as realistic as possible and crawl around on the floor to pick up those rounds that just fell all over the place, butter fingers?

LFD ruined me for life, I reload non stop and have noticed it and wonder why i keep doing it. Heck, i'm playing WOW and will hit the reload key in intense fights if there is slight break. I started noticing it in Borderlands when i got guns with big clips and noticed it really alot when they made reloading (in later Borderlands games) have explosive clips and such. Not to big a deal except in online PvP games. I reload myslf into a no ammo death often.

Do not really care for way or another, depends a lot on which kind of game is in question.
In Doom the infinite clip was quite refreshing.

Perhaps they should force you to fill the clips when they are empty, should stop this silly reloading habit. (Add the Gear of War mini game x30 for extra fun.)
Rare things are as intensive as laying in a ditch on your back and filling clip while a friend is covering the position.

As others have said, would you rather be reloading when in a shootout with someone, or at your own time in peace and quiet?
