I'm looking to spend around 150 max.
I bought the SD300 6 years ago and it has served me well. I am looking for something that fits in my pocket, something that does good in low light situations, that's always been my issue with the SD300 that it was bad in low light cases.

What are some things that I should look for in buying a camera, spec wise?

I want to get a good understanding so that when a sale may role around I can look at its specs(like we do with laptops and such) and decide if that is a good unit.

TY!

Refurbished PowerShot Digital Cameras

PowerShot S95 Refurbished -- $319.99 (I paid roughly $450 CAD in Feb 2011, and it is an excellent PS camera.)

PowerShot S90 Refurbished -- $279.99

PowerShot SD4000IS Black Refurbished -- $209.99

Nikon COOLPIX P300 -- If you want to go with Nikon, but sensor size is smaller than the Canon S90/S95.

So I tried that Nikon S8100 today at best buy. Seemed like a really good camera, where does it stack up compared to the above? Wanted to try the S95, but it wasn't hooked up :(

What would be comparable to like a S90, but with a bigger zoom?

CANON POWERSHOT S95 VS NIKON COOLPIX S8100

The different between a S90 and S95 is that S95 have 720p Video.

S95/S90
50% larger sensor
1.6 F-stop faster
Raw mode

S8100
1080p

I take the 50% larger sensor and 1.6 f-stop faster any day of the week over that of 1080p video.

Olympus PEN E-PL1

is also 399 right now at amazon, same price as a S95. I know the E-PL1 has a much bigger sensor, but overall how would you guys compare the two?

Olympus PEN E-PL1 is not a point & shoot camera. It is a micro 4:3. It have interchangeable lens, and 10% larger sensor.

iGas took your advice and I went to B&H today. Checked out many of the cameras. I think the S90/S95 is too complex for me, I highly doubt I will even use all of the functions.

The Olympus seemed like a money sink, if going for that might as well go for a refurb Canon or Nikon DSLR.

The Casio EX-ZR100 caught my eye. So many features built into the little thing! A lot of technology. What do you think about that? Or maybe a lower canon model like 4000.

I'm sorry iGas, I don't mean to fight your advice please don't think anything like that! From really looking at this, I am really doubting if I will even use all of the advanced functions.

The SD4000 is $199 @ Adorama, Refurbished by Canon. Has an f/2 lens, but less features than the S95. Neat little camera.

The SD4000 is designed to replicate the best of the S90/S95 in a smaller package. Half the price, but more than half the camera.
