Actually it is clear that PilotWings was created in response to Matthias Rusts's 1987 landing of a small plane in Red Square, and the earlier spy plane incident. PilotWings was actually a KGB franchise meant to train western children how to pilot small aircraft and skydive in preparation for attempting to "get back" by landing people on the White House grounds.

The most insidious Red NES game was probably Gumshoe....

I always thought it stood for Power Wing. I recall reading that in the manual too although that was 10+ years ago.
