in line with GM's crappy cars.. my dads car is going back to GM

not for a recall.. but going back to the factory techs. As it turns out my dad is one of select GM owners who's cars are listed to be tested for emmision and engine and powertrain problems. So for the period of about 2 weeks my dad will be given a late model mid range GM car of his choice to drive (fully insured by GM) and while his car is with GM they will test the car, check everything and if something is broken they will fix it for free on their own costs. this ofcourse refers to the powertrain systems (transmission, emmisions, engine etc etc). On top he gets some cold hard cash for giving them the car for the period..
His car has been quite noisy of late so hope they fix that.. the car otherwise runs great. Its got 90K miles on it, its a 99 saturn SW2. The engine noise i think is the valve noise, but i dont know, hope they fix that, its noisy when your standing outside, but on the inside its quiet, you cant hear it. However on the outside it makes a racket, even my tercel didnt make that much of a racket at 137K.

So teh car goes in next week.. i wonder what my dad will get to choose for his replacement car. I am hoping something sporty like a Cadillac CTS or maybe Corvette (its mid range price eh?)..

Well i can dream right on what he gets to drive right?

well I know for a fact that dealers in LA give upgrades to most cars. My uncle who owns a cadillac caterra (he had leased the first gen, now he owns a second generation) went back to GM for some work (engine thinge i think) and they gave him a fully loaded DeVille DTS for that 2 weeks to drive.

Another friend with a GMC Yukon (or Tahoe whatever) had his car in for some extended service and Rydell gave him a Caddy too.

Is it under warrenty or did they just pick his car at random?

But sounds like he needs to have the valves adjusted, maybe. But the older twin cam motors pre 2000 or 2001, can't remember, did make more noise. But does not sound to bad if the car is still running good.

Didn't all earlier Saturns have a lot of NVH problems?

car is long past warrenty, it was picked not in random but rather to specific sets of things.. (criteria) of some sort. My dad had always serviced the car at Saturn and so they have all teh records. Infact teh car still have its original tires at 90K. They still have enough tread in them.

As for the ticking sound I am sure its the valve's it probably needs an adjustment. The timing chain was changed at 65K.. so that's fine. Everything else in teh car runs good.

What is NVH??
