first, the system would hang and lock up with page showing. i disabled cookie killers and relaxed security in IE, yet would still lock. after a coupl'a tries the system would lock then reboot all by itself. anyone else have/had this problem? workarounds and fixes available? i just built this new rig but all my software is directly off my old rig, and most of the hardware too. i did a scan w/ latest files from symantec, no viruses showed up. help pls? thanks...:)

I don't think it has to do with either cookies or security. You might first try reinstalling IE and see what happens; are you installing IE Service-Pack-1 also?

is nearlyperfect.com one of those sites?

my old comp used to always crash when i went to nearlyperfect.com
i tried upgrading the browser and changings all its settings...nothing made it work

well, let's see....some pages at PCWorld will will get a lock, also ZDNet and CNet downloads. the IE5.5 version i'm using is i assume is the latest as when i go to MS Product Updates it does'nt prompt me to update IE 5.5 with any add-ons. i used to avoid updating IE from Win98se because it usually gave me problems with multiple identities in Outlook Express. but for the sake of security improvements i started installing it in my new builds. IE6 is as far as i'm concerned about the most problematic version to use with win98se, so i won't go there. i'm going to try some stuff with tweak ui and see if i get some positive results with that. thanks for your replies, it's really appreciated. :) t2
