Howdy,

I'm looking into getting a couple cameras for in my house. These would be mostly for monitoring the kids or seeing what's going on if we're not home.

The only requirements I can think of are:
Wifi connectivity. Can't use PoE based on where the cameras will go but they will be near power outlets.
IR for recording at night
Motion Detection that can store the videos to a computer that I can go and view later.
Time settings for when motion detection should be active. I don't know if there's specific software to manage cameras or if they come with something or what.
Don't need to be able to view things from an app or anything fancy like that.

E.g. Camera detects motion in a specific area. Camera starts recording video until the motion stops. Video file ends up on a file share on a computer somewhere so I can go view it later.

Seems pretty basic to me but I've never had a security camera setup anywhere before.

Budget = Cheap. Not looking for a high end system. This is just for more of a fun project so I don't want to spend any more than is absolutely necessary.

Thanks!

Hey, I'm not sure if you're still looking for something, but maybe take a look at some of the D-Link IP cameras. I've got a few in my place plus their D-link water sensor for monitoring my sump pump. The cameras are reasonable IMO (about $100 CAD is what I paid for each) - pan and tilt, night vision and can be set to detect motion. I've had them for about two years and they've been trouble-free. All that's needed is the smartphone app and a wifi router with WPS and you're set. :)
