Why is this statement on every dollar bill I pull out of my wallet? I guess they forgot about separation of State and Church when they started printing money. It sucks to see that we still live in a society like this. I wonder if any lawyers have the balls to take this one up.....

I am not God bashing at all. I just don't want to see it on my money....

I edited my statement above because it was out of the scope of my discussion and should have been left out....

<< Where in the constitution does it say "seperation of church and state"? >>

blah blah blah. Not again. You KNOW what the establishment clause is.

This topic, along with many religious flame-bait topics, have been posted so many times that I am getting tired of seeing them...and I absolutely LOVE arguing with Xians....

Probably the same reason why it is in most patriotic songs and on a lot of older irreplacable documents..because we used to be a country until all the PC pissants started ruining it...

Actually I read somewhere where a bunch of liberals were trying to get them to modify it from "In God we trust" to "In Parents we trust"

[Sarcasm]Only problem with that, is all them damn orphans..[Sarcasm]

<< Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... >>

What law did Congress make that either prevents you from practicing your religion, or encourages the establishment of any other religion?

I prefer the Simpson's rendition: In Rod we Trust
Hey, what is that? It's an inanimate carbon rod!
Stupid Rod.

Leave it there, take it off the dollar bill - I don't really care much.

If it bugs people we should likely take it off there.

I don't think it needs to be replaced with anything, just take it out. I have to admit I don't like it on the money, although it doesn't exactly 'offend' me. I just don't think it has any business being there...especially with the growth of atheist or alternative belief systems.

And yes, you are probably very aware of the Establishment Clause......It is a fundamental right to be protected from the state's aid over religion (or preference of one religion).....By putting In God We Trust, they are promoting religion over non-religion.....If they weren't, why would it be necessary to put on money at all?

You don't sound like you are god bashing at all. //sarcasm//
Did someone tell you that if you made antireligious posts you would be cool and look like a free thinker that rises above the rest of the "mindless tools of theology"?
Yawn...

So are you saying that non-religion is a religion?

The real reason that "In God We Trust" is all over the place is:

John Locke's letter concerning toleration. letter

The belief at the time (don't forget most of the founders were deists) was that your word (and everything centered around your word) was of overwhelming importance, and that your word was only good if you were responsible to a higher authority, i.e. god.

This is why Locke doesn't like athiests (because they aren't responsible to anybody but themselves, he thinks) and why he doesn't like catholics because they serve two masters--the pope and the authority at home.

Otherwise, it's of some use to note that many of the founders were masons, who follow Locke's belief that someone has to believe in God and a sense of responsibility in order to be trustworthy.

Right now it's only there because of tradition.

amyway, my point is that "Congress shall make no law..." The design of a banknote is NOT a law, it's a banknote.

<< I'm more interested in where that freaky pyramid with the eye near the top comes from. >>

It's the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States.

Eye = the eye of Providence
Unfinished pyramid = indicates strength and duration
Annuit Coeptis = "Providence has favored our undertakings"
Novus ordo seclorum = "A new order of the ages"

Annuit Coeptis refers to the divine element of the founding of the US, and Novus ordo seclorum refers to the earthly/worldly part.

I didn?t say it wasn't a debatable topic. It has just been beat to death. Do you really think you are the first person to have this profound realization?
And besides, what happened to the liberal notion of tolerance and understanding? I guess it does not apply to anyone that does not agree with you, or questions your reasoning?

Exactly and what's so wrong with tradition? Today it seems we're blackballing tradition, rewriting history, taking holidays out of schools, etc., etc....basically eliminating history altogether. Without knowing your past the future will be a bumpy ride.
