In-game XMB officially anno...er.....well kind.

What's interesting is the inclusion of Home mentioned in the update. Is Home close to being finished and they are merely saving the announcement for GDC? Here's to hoping GDC is huge for Sony.

And I don't think it's gonna be full XMB, but like an insider mentioned before: the messaging component will be accessible... hopefully music is, but I think a lot of things are going to be used only if the game wants it. Look to the inclusion of the Friends list and in-game music in a few PS3 games already. I love using my own music in Super Stardust HD, but the way its implemented leaves a lot to be desired (you have to go into Audio settings of the game. only done through the main menu, which cannot be accessed in the middle of a game. 🙁)

This is a must have feature. The big question is if it will be retroactive, or if the overhead will be too much if existing games didn't allocate for it.

I'd really hope it would be retroactive, but who knows how it'll work in games that didn't account for it. That's one of the things the 360 spec states; developers HAVE to reserve resources for the Dashboard because its always there.

Similarly, older PS3 games obviously wont have the Home's version of Achievements... unless they can somehow be easily patched in... and are dev's going to bother?

Microsoft did something similar with their last Dashboard update... for some reason they didn't bother removing XBLA demos from your games played list from before the update, but after it, the demos wont show up. Its frustrating to not be all encompassing.
