6/10 for being "quite disappointed"? ;) Seems like it should be a little lower, but that's just my opinion.

Not too bad of a review. Having never listened to In Flames, however, it's hard to get a sense of what the album sounds like reading your review. I have heard of them before; I think they're in the metal genre.

metalcore

The album would be better if Anders could actually sing or if they stopped using clean singing in the choruses.. most of them are horrid

Yes they do. The vocals are pretty standard metalcore screaming. Harsh vocals in the verse then singing in the chorus is used in metalcore.

They need to fire Anders and get a decent vocalist

Yeah... it's an alright album but when you expect a 9/10 or 8 at the very least anything lower is "quite disappointed". I was a little harsh on it for the score it deserved but only because I was bitter. ;)

synopsis: in flames should have stopped making records a long time ago and this latest one is nothing short of an abortion

Yea but metalcore is also taken out of melodic death.

Maybe not stop completely but at least put more time and effort into them. They force them out every 2 years or so regardless of how they sound it seems.

But they are starting to sound more like the bullet for my valentine side of metalcore than the melodeath influenced side

First, Where did you get your hands on it? It doesn't get released for another week. Secondly, I liked Come Clarity as well as all their previous albums. A lot of people are disappointed that all hardcore/metal is going melodic, i think its only the natural progression: Something that a mass wants to listen to because of varying styles and pleasing attributes to more than one group.

I think saying 'all' is a bit cavalier here.

Furthermore, even though I think nitpicking over genre titles is a bit obtuse, saying that in flames is anything 'core' is pretty silly. (not directed at you in particular)

I know what you're insinuating, and in that case that's an incredibly stupid question that didn't need to be asked.

Second... it doesn't get released in the STATES for another week. If you read the review you'd notice I have the Japanese import. The best part about reviewing for a site like LABradio is how many countries are represented in our community, and how many like to help out the staff when they can.

It isnt silly, they sound like a heavier version of bullet for my valentine. Harsh verse, clean chorus, emo lyrics. They are metalcore now.

The difference would be that BFMV went from good to suck in 1 CD. In Flames is doing it gradually, and I actually liked Come Clarity quite a bit compared to most In Flames fans.

I realize you dont know this, but Matt had surgery on his throat. Lost his ability to scream/sing and had to retrain his voice just to get it to what it is now. Which explains why his vocals are so much different.

I did know that, and so did the singer from Disturbed... I believe while they were recording their 2nd CD. I mean he didn't have it ON HIS throat, but stomach and lungs for acid reflux.

From what I remember Matt had his tonsils taken out. That's not voice altering surgery after it has all healed up. He recorded the entire Scream, Aim, Fire album in pain because he didn't want to get them taken out yet. I would rather have had the album later and had full intensity compared to this half-assed "my throat hurts" BS. He doesn't get pity points because he was in pain. I'm sorry but that's not how it works... a poor showing is a poor showing, regardless of the reason.
