In ear headphones

I noticed there is a sale on the Etymotic ER6 headphones and I want something for the gym that will seal out the terrible music they play there and sound decent as well as airplane trips etc.

I've seen similar design headphones from Sony etc and wondered if its all the same and Etymotic just has better marketing or if they are actually that much better.

Anyone have any experience?

Etymotic is actually one of the premier sound companies in the acousitcal market (I am not talking home stereos).

They also desigtn and build alot of stuff from hearing aid amplifiers to Medical testing devices.

I have a set of 6i's and I love them. You can buy a little cheaper but I have yet to find a set that sounds as good as the ER headsets !

I found a sale where they are $80 for the Er6. I think I can get a sony knock off for $50. If you think the value added is that much nicer for the etymotic I may go for it.

Sony does not even come close with their $40 ones. But Shure is comparable. Unfortunately you opened the flood gates and now people are going to start recommending $300-$1000 earphones

Er6 or ER6i? The latter is probably what you want. The sony ones are not worth it.

Ok, lets cap it out at $150 as the max price I'm willing to pay and ideally I would want to keep it under $100. I don't want to earphones to cost more than my ipod ^^

I would recommend:
Etymotic ER6I ~$90
or
Shure E3C ~$130

For a bit more you can get:
Ety E4s ~$180
or
Shure E4C ~$200

Mfr. Part # ER6C

What is the difference?

The I's are the newer model and have a bit more bass.

Edit: But the C's might be I's with some additional feature, I can't recall.

I felt that the Shure E3c gave a more balanced sound. ER-6 was too bright in my opinion.

they have great sound, but one thing pisses me off, the piece that holds the buds in place is plastic, and its not broken off....for 150 bucks you'd think they'd be made a lil better
