Ok im having some serious problems pin pointing a major problem I am having with corrupting files on my comp. I'll explain from the start everything thats happened and where I'm at at the moment. I'll appologize now for my shoddy grammer and spelling but I don't have MS Word installed to spell check, because a friend has my disc.
My system is as follows.
P4 2.53ghz
Asus P4PE mobo
2x 512mb of corsair 3200DDR
WD raptor 36gb
120gb WDSE drive
Radeon 9800pro
Now everything was hunky dory about 2 days ago, when i got my new stick of corsair RAM, bringing my PC to 1 gig. I couldn't wait and installed right away. Everything went fine I booted up, it detected everything fine, all things seemed well. I went to play a game of desert combat to see how the RAM increased performance. Got in game, thought, "Wow this is fantastically smooth." and was fine for about a minute. I then got my 2nd ever BSOD in windows xp, I dunno if how many of you have seen it before but the screen goes blue, with white writing and said something along the lines of "There has been a hardware error blah blah codexx0x0x0x....etc and windows has been shut down to keep ur hardware safe" it then said something like, "Problem file atiSOMETHING.SOMETHING" Now I think i have had this error once long ago with my radeon when it seems it wasnt pushed in the slot correctly.
So I thought "Sh!t musta knocked it out a little when putting the ram in" checked everything inside was fine. Rebooted went back into windows. From this point in things started to go up sh!t creek in a big way. Battlefield and other games wouldn't run, or would get errors, programs were crashing and I was getting an error in the taskbar saying there were corrupt windows files. System recovery didnt help and i was finding some of my stored programs and files on my 120gb wd drive were corrupt to. Im like "alright looks like ill have to format the raptor and reinstall windows."
Proceeded to do so without hassle. Got back into windows and what do ya know, im getting errors when i install some of my programs things like "CRC errors" and just plain old corrupt files. Now i thought it must be the RAM playing up so i played with ram combos for ages, trying the old stick, the new stick, different DIMM slot combos, everything. Played around in my BIOS, set everything to default. Still got problems.
Ive now just finished trying to run WD diagnostic tools on my HDs the 120gb drive is fine it scans and completes no worries. The Raptor though it won't even start the scan says it has problems and that i should contact the WD help/warrenty site for more info.
So now im guessing my raptor is stuffed but the only way ill now know for sure is to format the 120gb drive (thats a LOT of backing up ill have to do) and install windows to that. Do you think this is now my best course of action, and that the RAM installation was purely a coincidense? The Raptor is about 2 months old, been performing flawlessly till now.
If it turns out I have to RMA my raptor whats involved and is it a long process?
Thankyou for any advice or suggestions you can provide.
