In CrossFire, does memory from both cards get used, or just one?

I seem to recall reading that when 2 cards are hooked together in CF, only the memory on the "master card" gets used. Is that correct or not? I'm pondering a CF solution and debating on getting 1GB or 2GB cards. Related Question: If only the memory from one card gets used, can I pair a 2GB "master card" with a 1GB "slave card?" (assuming they are the same brand and numerical designation, i.e. HD6950?

Thanks.

It gets used on both but the data is replicated so it doesn’t double the size or bandwidth.

Mixing and matching will cause the better cards to downgrade to the worse card, so a 1 GB card will make the other cards behave as if they were 1 GB too.

Thanks much, BFG10K. That note about the better card being downgraded by the lesser card is an important one! Sort of similar to RAIDing HDs of unequal sizes; the smallest drive determines the size of the other drives.
