In case you're wondering, the Mechwarrior reboot IS apparently still happening.

Blue has noticed that there have been some rumblings from Pirhana Games about their new Mechwarrior game. An announcement announcement! There’s already a bit of information on their site, including this: “Gamers will pilot a deadly BattleMech and use information warfare to dominate a dynamic-destructive urban battlefield. The game features include classic and new mechs from the BattleTech universe with persistent character development and plans for a single player campaign, as well as, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay.” You apparently play “a wayward nobleman” who ends up with a motive for revenge when his family are killed during a planetary invasion.

Don't get too antsy. The trailer in the article is the same one from a couple years ago.

This news is my second place gaming news story of 'what i want to happen'.

The only thing better... a Freespace sequel.

I haven't been following it too closely but I thought there was one in the works anyway. I saw the trailer like everyone else has seen. Or is this just some info saying confirming they really are working on it and the trailer wasn't a tease only?

Edit: I'm hoping for single player game as well as a multi player game. Instead of multi player only.

They released said trailer than there was a lot of legal issues to be worked out because of some sort of issue of who owned the rights to what .

This announcement seems to be something along the lines of 'it's all good and we're working on the game'.

They made the classic Mechwarrior mistake, and used a Warhammer. It is one of many mechs which FASA was sued for using back in the day and the settlement was that it would no longer be actively used. This included the Warhammer (and MKII), Marauder (and MKII), Rifleman (and MKII), Phoenix Hawk, Shadow Hawk, Locust (and MKII), Battlemaster (and MKII) and a few others.

Unfortunately, many of them were ingrained in the lore and player base, as well as included in many of the previous video game adaptations (heck the original Mechwarrior game pretty much would only have 1 mech available to play, the Jenner, as all the others in it were on the list).

thats too bad, i liked most of those mechs.

The shadowhawk and rifleman were great. Dont really care about the locust. While the warhammer and marauder are great there are better heavys out there.

I just hope this comes out i loved the original games.

The annoying part is that it wasn't even the original unseen warhammer model in the trailer, they grabbed the center torso from a rifleman and tweaked a few other details IIRC and Harmony Gold still blew a gasket.

Knew about the reboot but I hadn't come across the trailer until now. MW2 was the first PC game I bought myself and the series as a whole I probably got more play time out of any other series. Really hope this gets launched eventually.

Harmony Gold (and in this case, tenuous IP) needs to DIAF.

Well, wouldn't you since the grabbed and tweaked the torso of the rifleman which was yet another one on the list, so instead of a pure warhammer, they have a rifleman/warhammer both of which were still not to be used....

Dont really care about the locust. While the warhammer and marauder are great there are better heavys out there.

Well, the locust was designed for crowd control (i.e. anti-infantry and civilian mobs), and also some light recon. In the video games, those aspects never really existed since they never had infantry units fighting, even though in the universe/lore that happened all the time in out of the way world planetary defense (mechs were just too expensive to have everywhere). That is an aspect that never really translated well in the games. It was mechs everywhere, and hundreds of them. In the universe/lore you were lucky to have 4 mechs defending the entire planet in many places.
