Actually it has been since last Friday 11/30. It's kinda funny but MS-DOS & Windows 3.x both still have until 12/31.

Oh well, time to move foward anyway. :)

It's amazing how people scream when support ends for a product that is as old as 95 is.

HP just discontinued phone support for printers prior to the Color LJ5 (this includes the 4/4M, 4+/4M+, 5/5M/5n/5se, & the original Color LJ). The 4's have been out of production since 1994, yet people STILL complain because their free support got turned off. "This is inconveniencing me!"

Waaaah!

Just because a product is old doesn't mean it's not useful to someone. If I had an old LJ 3 or something, and I maintained it and it kept pumping out the pages, I would be happy. BUT, if it died, I would expect support for it.

3dfx supported the Voodoo1/Rush right up until the bitter end. For the small amount that people are going to call in and "waste resources", why not keep them happy, and maybe when THEY decide to upgrade, they just might go with the company that supported them.

(incase you can't tell, this is a pet peeve of mine)

The thing you need to realize is it costs a significant amount of money to train people to support products. If a product generates 5% of your call volume, yet costs just as much to train for as a product that produces 35%, which do you cut?

Electronic support is still provided, & there are ASP's who can provide physical service to the printers. But phone support is no longer provided, and for good reason.

Very very true.

In that case, shouldn't Microsoft be opening up TechNet for these "unsupported" OS'? Sorry, but Ask Jeeves just doesn't do it for me.

I hate it when people complain about unsupported stuff... well obviously there is a better product out (in most cases) that replaces the old, they made the new product for a new reason, so get it.

Just to clarify, I am not complaining about it. Hell I haven't used Windows 95 since 1998. :)

Just thought some people might want to know.

3dfx stopped supporting everything below V3. There was never any support for these devices under Win2k (like 1 set of beta drivers that didnt even work) and there were almost 0 driver updates under Win9x.

fsck 3dfx.

Besides, I want everything based on DOS to be unsupported now, I mean once Win9x doesn't have anymore support everyone is going to make sure everything is designed to run around WinNT, which is so much more superior to Win9x its not even funny.

Did Microsoft EVER really support Windows 95? They charge for support unless you buy a Retail version and I think I've only met one person in my life that actually paid for the retail version of that OS. Furthermore, just because it isn't supported doesn't mean it won't work. It's still a good OS and there are zounds of service pack downloads that should be obtainable somewhere out in cyberspace...

Windows 95 came in OEM form on my P-166 and I've used it ever since. Even had it on my main machine until early this year, then went straight to Win2k.

As a 6-year Windows 95 user, I salute the programmers of that noble OS. It served me well. *wipes tears from eyes*
