I was in Canada a few weeks ago and spoke with a few natives about the healthcare in Canada. The healthcare system up there is hurting for expert doctors in the major fields. There is a cap on the amount that a doctor can make, so in turn most of the good doctors leave Canada and come to the U.S. to make good money. They basically said that the social healthcare system is great for day to day sickness and checkups. But the problem comes that if you have anything major, that you end up going to the US to get experts healthcare specialist. So you end up paying for that out of pocket, or get just OK care in Canada.
They said they raised that cap not too long ago, but that there is a serious shortage and will be for some time.
My mom has MS/Epilepsy, my father has Arthritis and 2 knee replacements and my grandfather has had a knee, hip, triple bypass surgery, finally, my second grandfather has Althziemers (sp)
Anyway, with all that, no ones had to wait more than a week for something if that long and only if it was not serious. The people you talked too are quacks.

Canada is the United States' hat. Canada protects us from the cold, that is all they are good for.
What a crappy hat. It still gets ridiculously cold up here in Wisconsin.
Yea, I think that hat is kind of drafty. That Canadian air reaches Ohio sometimes, and it's just terrible! I demand Canadia do something about that and take their air back when it reaches us, or better yet, fix the leaks in that hat to make sure it keeps us warm like it's supposed to. Else we might have to go shopping for a new hat!
The US is Canada's Furnace. Pretty crappy one though, it still gets fricken Cold up here.

"When I taught for the state of California, I had the best health coverage on the planet," he reports. "But when my son was born ? and it was totally by the book, no complications ? my insurance only covered the first $10,000 of the hospital costs. The remaining $8,000 came out of my pocket. And that's with full coverage."
How could it be "the best health coverage on the planet" and then turn around and cost $8k for a no complications birth?
I've had two kids under two different insurance plans with major complications during both pregnancies and after the kids were born. My total out-of-pocket cost for both of those was but a fraction of the cost he incurred.
Conclusion: He did not have "the best health coverage on the planet". In fact, he had horrendous health coverage under whatever insurance plan he was on with the state of California.
my twins, one was born breach with cord around his neck, cost mt a whoppin 250 bucks. total.
and you can have washington and oregon.

Man stabbed aboard Greyhound bus in northern Ontario
olice are investigating a stabbing aboard a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg, an incident in which a young man was attacked by another passenger as the vehicle travelled through northern Ontario.
The man who was stabbed is believed to be in his 20s. He was taken to hospital Sunday afternoon with minor injuries, the Sault Star newspaper reported.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man near the town of White River, about 300 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., shortly after the bus driver let him get off at the side of the highway.
"I can confirm that an incident did occur aboard one of our buses," said Greyhound spokesperson Abby Wambaugh, speaking from Dallas, Texas.
"The incident occurred 10 miles [16 kilometres] east of White River," she said. "The bus originated in Toronto and was headed for its final destination of Winnipeg."
Wambaugh said the company is "co-operating fully" with Ontario Provincial Police in the investigation.
Another bus was provided for the 13 remaining passengers to continue on their trip.
The incident comes less than two months after a Greyhound passenger beheaded Tim McLean, a 22-year-old man from Winnipeg, sparking questions about security on buses.
Vince Weiguang Li, 40, is charged with second-degree murder and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation to see whether he is fit to stand trial. He's scheduled to appear in court Oct. 6.

wow, 4 cities =P
For the record, I dont' think Canada is a bad place to be. If I were to move anywhere, Vancouver would probably be pretty high on the list.
