In Arizona...

Well let me tell you this is the first time i have ever been out west like this... We have plans to move out here after i finish school this June...

My thoughts on this place are nothing but positive... The weather, girls 😛, mountains that can be seen from ANYWHERE it seems...

I have tons to see still but its looking good... We are looking at houses in Suprise which i thought were pretty damn nice...

Anyone from arizona that can give me some places to go "site seeing" or soemthing of that sort...

Thanks!

🙂

actually i haven't but i am planning to drive up there with the family sometime this week... How far of a drive from Phoenix?

😀

I considered moving to Phoenix last year. I went down to check it out when it was about 110F.

It was ok, but I had a few complaints. Everything was too flat and all the streets are just laid out in squares. Also the utter dominance of tract housing and apartment communities was making me sick.

The Grand Canyon is awesome though and areas up near Flagstaff seem a little more interesting.

Things in Arizona !

1) The THING in the dessert (it's just a big shop on the side of the road about 60 miles east of Tucson - but they advertise with lots of billboards)
2) Grand Canyon 70 miles north of Flagstaff - impressive.
3) Petrified Forrest / Painted Desert - Eastern Arizona, near the New Mexico border, plan to spend some time there.
4) Meteor Crator - between Flagstaff and the Pertified Forrest, it makes you think about what just might happen again.
5) Colorado River & the London Bridge, yes THE London Bridge - it moved from England you know, didn't like the weather.
6) Sierra Vista & Ft. Huachuca, join the Army, see the dessert, have a shoot-out at the O.K. Corral
7) Yuma, as in "Just who do you think you are?, You Ma***.......", Old Western Prison there.
8) Needles, wait till July so you can really appreciate 120F+ degrees, good time to practice wind sprints.
9) Lost Duchman Mine, east of Phoenix in the Superstition Mountains, just go looking, you'll find it.
10) Cactus Candy - DO NOT get it confussed with Candied Cactus, different kind of stickee.
11) Hug a Suaguaro, a true act of kindness.
12) Cuddle a 'Teddy Bear' cactus, regrets? maybe after.
13) Gila Monsters, might find them out by Gila Bend, bring money for gas to get back from there though, Couple hundred dollers to get 1/2 tank.
14) Scorpions, about the size of lobsters. Check your porch in the morning, and your shoes too, before you put them on.
15) Black Widow spiders, about the size of bowling balls with a red hourglass on their belly, makes a great pet.
16) Tarantulas - spider with a bad toupe, bigger that the Black Widow, but more cuddly.
17) Tarantula Hawks - a black wasp with flourescent orange wings, abaout the size of a Beech QueenAir, and it's bad enough to rip off the lid
on the Tarantulas nest and drag it out and kick it's ass before laying it's eggs in the Tarantula to feed it's young.
18) Arizona Cardinals - but it's not really a Pro Football Team, used to be - just not no more.
19) Arizona Girls, you could get more 'Tang then the Astronauts.
20) John McCain, Arizona's own Viet Nam War hero. (Better than Bush 100 : 1)
21) Rain - get it all in one downpour for just a few billion gallons in a few minutes - can you say FLASH FLOOD ? - stay out of Arroyos.

Thanks Cap,

I think the reason i am seeing most of the positives is because i am from pittsburgh where we ahve about 18 inches of snow at the present time... Now i like winter and the seasons, but i have lived there for the past 18 years... Its time for a change...

😀

You'll like Arizona, even though in some aspects, beauty can be stark and bare - it's in the eye of the beholder.

Some of what I wrote were being a bit sarcastic - like Scottys Lost Duchman Mine - local urban legend, never been found.
Want to see snow? disconnect the antenna from the T.V.
Need a good $ 5.00 umberella? Comes with a mixed drink on the patio of the restruant, made of bamboo.

Be a good change from Pitts.

Whatchu talking about, Cap? I got yer snow right here . . .

Are you anywhere near Sedona? My aunt goes there at least once a year and she loves it. Haven't gone myself, but would be something I'd like to do.

Hubby and I visited Phoenix, Arizona last year and it was really hot. About 110F / 40C each day. It's very different seeing all the buildings only couple stories high...and having that dusty kinda look everywhere.

Go to Sedona and Jerome. Especially Jerome, it's this little town on the side of a huge mountain...very strange. I just hope you don't get queasy driving on winding mountain roads.

I grew up in Pittsburgh but now live in Phoenix. The only things I miss are the rain and the sports teams.

Did you hear the story about the spaceship in the mountain?

No. Unfortunately we only got to spend a few hours there.

Next time I'd like to spend a weekend or week there.

I'll have to remember to bring red or brown shoes though.

I'm going out to Tucson for spring break to visit a few friends going to U of A. Anyone have some ideas for places to go? We're going to hit up Mexico atleast one night, but other than that I don't know what we'll do.

Josh

All the cookie-cutter homes, tract housing, trailer parks, and apartment communities don't bother you at all? My buddy down there sells houses in communities and he's even starting to get bothered by their dominance. Scottsdale has been completely lost to them.

It just sucks the character out of a place.

No, I'm not very fond of that but I just bought a house here in a neighborhood that is remarkably like one back east. They're around, you just have to look.

"Sydona"? LMAO.

Oh, BTW, snowbirds, it's not pronounced "Tux-son", it's pronounced "Two-son."
