While DeVos is an incompetent, the federal government just doesn't have a particularly large role in K-12 education as it is. There's not that much damage Trump can do, thankfully. His executive order is basically pointless.

Just another worthless EO. Trump has absolutely nothing to show for his first 100 days, and can't actually move on any real legislation so he figures he can at least brag about how he's doing it all himself through EOs (we can talk about the hypocrisy here later). Of course, the majority of these EOs are nothing more than "oh, hey, xxx dept look into xxx and tell me what you find" which could be done with a simple phone call or memo, but then he would lose the lovely photo op or bragging ability.
