Since installing a arctic cooling revision 3 cooler i have lost the use of 1 pci slot completely and one half of another one. In other words two pci slots have been occupied and two are left..in these reside a sb audigy 2 and emuzed evcap maui tv tuner...i have also a promise sata raid controller card...now the dilemma is the mb can do sata but not raid...i have grown used to the speeds of two segate 160 in raid 0 (HD tach has them at around ~91mb/s) whereas one drive nets ~69mb/s...now i also use the tv tuner card for recording from the family camcorder to put movies onto dvd...so basically, the question become sata raid vs tv tuner card...any opinions much appreciated

tv tuner card. I'm sure your raid array is faster than single drives, but not fast enough to really matter, except for when you are transferring huge arse files. for little stuff, the difference is probably negligable.

Well... what's the SATA RAID controller good for if you don't have any large (captured video) to move around? Keep the TV card.

BTW, I dont think that 90MB/s vs. 70MB/s is that important for every day computer use. 70MB/s is more than enough to author DVDs.

I've made many vids, and i just have a seagate 7200.7 120gig SATA drive. :) it works just peachy. I'm sure having two in raid would be sweet though. that's my next step.

what i noticed with the seagate drives in a non-raid status is that you can hear the heads seeking and writing more than if they are in raid. also, comparing the 160gb seagate to my old 120 8mb WD the seagate is louder in terms of seeking, writing

:) nice card, I understand the issue then. How about a USB based video cap card? Or, a digital video camera with firewire.

well the thing is since i already have the h/w i really dont feel like spending anymore.. btw usb capture cards are not on par with their pci counterparts...the camcorder is an oldstyle using the mini vhs tapes so cant really change the situation with a mini dv cam...haveyou heard of emuzed? especially the maui-II tuner? that is what i have but the software is poor for it and other applications do not work such as dscaler..only apps that work with it are movie mill and windows MCE and these are buggy to boot

If you drop the sata card though, youll have to reformat the drives and all that. Just somthing else to think about.
