In a 3-way lamp which set of wires does a 1-way bulb use?

This lamp says to use a 50, 100, 150W 3-way bulb. By the way the knob works with a 1-way bulb I'm thinking that uses the middle set of wires. So am I actually limited to 100W for a 1-way bulb?

Meh I forgot the bulbs just have two filaments. But either way I'm probably limited to 100W. Damnit, this room is too dark.

Well, considering that it goes off, off, on, on I'm guessing the wire that gives you 100 watts with a 3 way bulb. If it was the other wire, it'd go on, off, on, off

But I don't know enough about electricity or the construction of the switch to know if it'd make a difference.

On a 50-100-150W bulb, the thinner of the two wires in the bulb is a 50W and the first stop or click on the lamp, the thicker in the bulb is the 100W and the second click or stop on the lamp, combined...or both illuminated...at the third stop is your 150W, fourth click or stop is off.

Yeah I figured that. So the contacts in the socket are likely only rated to 100W. Damn.

It depends on the filament. If you put a 100W in there it will burn at 100W.. I don't know what happens at the 50W setting.. maybe it would overload the wires, but I don't see why they would bother to use weaker wiring for the 50W contacts.
