'In 5 years, people will be having sex with robots'
Human/robot love inevitable, researcher says

EDMONTON - Sex with robots may sound sci-fi, but finding a silicon soulmate is closer to reality than we think, says a British researcher.
Human-like robots with all the working parts will make their way onto consumer markets in the next five years; in 20 years they will become socially accepted; and by 2050 the first human-robot marriage ceremony will take place, says David Levy, the London author of Love and Sex With Robots.

What say you? Would you have sex with a good looking pile of silicon chips and rubber?

So lets see here.

You can order groceries from home now and have them delivered.
You can buy clothes online and have them delivered.
You can telecommute from home and not enter the office (or just not work and live in your parents basement) without leaving.
And now you can have your own plug in sex slave and not have to leave the house to get some.

Soon enough we'll all be allergic to the sun.

Why would you get married to a robot? Seriously. What's the benefit?

You can turn it off when you don't want to deal with it? :p

You can beat it without any consequences and it wont leave you. It'll probably be 400% times more efficient around the house. You can probably cheat on it and it will have no feelings about it.

Right, but why legally marry it? There's no benefit whatsoever.

So is there a maintenance cost or something? Like does it need an annual tune-up? Lube change????

It makes me sad that I won't be around when holodecks are common.

"In 20 years they'll be socially accepted."

Right. Good luck with that.

But honestly, I would like to have some sort of "house robot" to do various menial everyday tasks.
I'd also like to have a Gay Deceiver computer system, so I'd never lose anything. :D

It would also be nice if they'd work on building robots with good manual dexterity, and a significantly improved AI system - that would mean even more automation in manufacturing, such as in fields that require working with fabrics.
