Improving Video Streaming

I have set up my network and have all my files on my server which is attached to my networked PC. When I play video to my laptop through my wireless network it is horrible. Music is fine and the speed seems good.... I'm wondering if a router upgrade will help. I currently have a Linksys WRT160NL (wireless-N) but was thinking about upgrading to a Linksys EA6500 or Netgear D6200. Should that help? I want to add a media player (Apple TV or something) but do not want to do that until my network is up to speed.
Thanks,
Jimi

Which laptop? How's your signal and what's the distance to the router? How many walls/floors in between and what are they made of?

I haven't used that WRT160NL but if signal issues are a problem then video streaming could benefit from a stronger model. However, if you've got lots of distance and barriers, even a stronger model might still be problematic. In that context, you could benefit from changing the placement.

Thanks for the reply but I don't think it's signal strength..... I have full bars on the laptop and all but one on the desktop that is running the server. Only one wall and an open door (probably 40 feet) from the computers to the router.
Thanks,
Jimi
