Improving Ping

Last night a group us from around the USA were all playing on the same server but were all getting a different "Ping" ranging from below 80 to as high as 180. I'm using a fast computer along with high speed cable (384+) and was only recieving a ping of 120 to 140. No other applications were running in the background either, any advice on how to improve the ping rate would be very much appreciated, thanks...

Well, a ping is how long it takes for the server to respond to your request, so it depends on distance and bandwidth. So, stating that your friends were all over the US, we'd expect different pings; if they were all in one room and got different pings, then that'd be curious.

Well, make sure nothing else is using your bandwidth; i.e., downloads, shutting off your TV, telling your neighbors to shut off their TVs. Your computer slowing down (i.e., performance drop on your side) can't be solved with getting a better connection.

Farmer, Thanks for sharing the useful information about ping rates, did'nt stop to think that a TV being on in another room could make a differance. Tonight a test is now in order to find out how much of a differance this makes...😉
