The playback in DIVX is supposed to look better on 9xxx series. I saw a shot on anandtech when they were previewing the cards of what improved streaming playback looks like. Does anyone have links to picture comparison of divx with 9xxx optimization vs without? thanks.

Well since 5.03 if you have a R9XXX card (maybe not r9000...but def 9500+) the decoder is setup to also use the videocard which would a) make it look better or b)decrease load on cpu or c) a and b. I don't remember which one it is but I beleive its B.

Either way that is pretty nice

That Fullstream tech only works with RealPlayer people. It does smooth it, but DivX looks exactly the same and works at the same speed with Radeons 7XXX, 8XXX and 9XXX. Maybe future versions of DivX will support it, but it will look blurry anyway so it's better be turned of if possible.

Fullstream tech only works with RealPlayer people

Divx is supported with the Divx Player 2.1
The DivX Player supports hardware accelerated video post-processing with selected video hardware. The current version of the Player supports the ATI RADEON? 9500, RADEON? 9600, RADEON? 9700, and RADEON? 9800 video cards. Applying post-processing to DivX videos using ATI's FULLSTREAM? technology (included in the cards) will increase post-processing speed and drop CPU usage up to 20% when using high-levels of post-processing. More information on hardware accelerated post-processing is available

More info here. Need the newest Cat drivers for it to be enabled.

Got my rig up and running again and gave the new Divx player a spin.

It works...and it works well! It dropped the CPU load at the highest quality settings from 40% down to 16%! for fullscreen playback of a 640x480 encoding with no loss of IQ (perhaps slightly better even)

Should be the ticket for playing back some high resolution encodings from HD transport streams I've captured. I noticed a big improvement in the IQ from the default medium quality settings which are ~ CPU load when not using the hardware fullstream.
