if anyone could help me find a good example of database disaster recovery I would appreciate it. Just some good info where some company's database went down and how they recovered it is all I need, but I can't seem to find anything through google or some other search engines.

Thanks,

Tim

Well, most database recoveries go like this:

-put a new tape in the drive every night
-every night, the database backup backs up to tape
-uh oh! machine went down. restore from tape

What, in particular, are you looking for?

I just need a specific example, how some company had a failure and what they did to fix it. I can't seem to find that on the web.

Ummmm

Prevention:
__________________________
1) daily full backups at 6:pm, differential backups at 12noon
2) daily media rotation since 20 hour life for each tape, and a full takes around 2 1/2 hours

each weekend, off site storage for each friday tape and store as permanent archive

disaster:
server breaks/blows/fat chick sits on my dell

recovery:
1) fireup Veritas Backup Exec and click on recover . it will ask you for yesterday's full back up, and today's noon backup.
your data will be up to date as of 12noon. If any transactions were done after noon, they have to be reentered.

Well, most companies are not going to willingly tell you they've had database disasters (or hacking attacks) -- and if they do will gove only scarce details -- maybe something like this will help?:

I simply can't find a good example! I have to make a 5 min powerpoint presentation about this, simply finding a stupid article for me isn't doing my homework.

Just a suggestion... You sound like a student. Go to your IT department and talk with one of the campus tech's. I promise they have a real world example for you right there at school. You can't get any closer to home then that.

The Shiz should realize that perhaps part of the chore of doing the presentation is finding the information you are requesting.

"The following are testimonials from Exabyte customers. Do you have a story you would like to share about your experiences with Exabyte products?"

Exabyte succes stories

If that is not adequate then look around some of the other backup storage company?s sites, they probably have similar pages with success stories of people using their products.

edit, One reason stories like that are difficult to find is that not many companies will want to publicly admit that they would have a problem with their data storage. It makes them look bad in the public's and even more importantly the investors eyes.
