i was going to swap out my old athlon 1 GHz for a 1700+ but I can't take out the heatsink. Damn, why do they make heatsinks such a PITA to put on and also to remove.

Oh well, I give up, can't take that POS out no matter what i try.

Your giving up????? Shame on you.

u have any suggestions? the thing is clamped on there and i don't see how in the world i can remove it.

I really hate how the clamp is designed on heatsinks!

i guess if i took out all my pci cards and took the entire mobo out i can take the heat sink off but i'm too lazy to do all that.

i'll just stick with the 1 GHz, it's good enough for posting on ATOT and watching anime, that's all i care about. 😀

lol, what are you doing w/ the other chip?

I just did this to a Thermaltake Chrome Orb ... had to remove it cause the fan was failing. Replaced it with a Speeze HS/fan. The clip was a bear when I put it in a couple years back, but all you have to do to take it out is push down and outward once it clears the "hook".

Once the clip is out, just twist upward and off the processor.

The Speeze HS was much easier to put in because of the patent pending clip that allows you to safely stick a screwdriver head in there for leverage.
