Been having a hell of a time trying to get my old emails from OE6 into Windows Live Mail. Seems straightforward enough as I follow the prompts in WLM. I receive confirmation that the messages have been imported but they are nowhere to be found. Where do they disappear to and how to get them back in their respective folders and email accounts? Thank you.

If i remember right it creates a Imported Items list on the left side under your mail account

Dahak, you are remembering correctly. Problem is, I don't see the imported messages there. The program runs and says the messages have been imported, but they're nowhere to be found. :confused:

when you run the import are you pointing to the correct outlook express folder? I remember when I had to import oe I believe there was 2 oe folders located under the documents and settings\username folder and seeings as you have multiple identities, you have to import each one individually which the folder names are {random letters and numbers}

edit -- the full location for it would be \Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{random numbers and letters}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

and whay you would have is under identities, you will have multiple {random numbers and letters} for each identities

That's exactly the folder I am attempting to import. And by all appearances it is being imported. I just don't see where they are.

hmm.. odd, i have just tried it and they show up for me, you should see a Storage Folders on the left and under that Imported Folders -> Local Folders -> then Inbox, outbox and any other folders in that identity

Dahak, I searched high and low but can't find those messages, including in your suggestion above. Not a big deal. For the time being I forwarded them to another web based email account that I rarely use other than for situations like this. When I have the time and energy I'll get to the bottom of this.
Appreciate your help. Thank you.

Another option would be to use Microsoft Outlook. Importing emails from Outlook Express to MS Outlook usually goes smoothly, and you should be able to either import from inside MS Outlook or export from the OE itself, works both ways.

Anway, when imported to MS Outlook, then run Live Mail, and try to import from MS Outlook. I can't remember if i've tried this myself, but by Microsoft's logic (if there is such thing :biggrin:) it should work!

You could also try Thunderbird. I had a major hassle dealing with proprietary email before, and now will only use use FOSS mail clients. I won't even consider anything else.
