This is really a question for anyone with experience in importing something from overseas. I want to order an amp you can only get in the UK however they give two options. One, for 1008 GBP ($1799) the price of the amp, they will send it to the nearest airport and I will have to pay customs/etc. The other is that if I call them and work something out they will charge a different amount (that you have to call for). Is this going to be ridiculous to pay customs for? Should I just pay them more to have it delivered to my door?

I imagine the price might be a little better paying at customs but having never imported anything, especially this heavy, I don't know.

The thing is probably pretty heavy, at least 50lbs.

If they've got experience doing import/export it may be worth your $$ to leverage that.

You're going to pay customs either way, but letting someone else arrange shipping and ensuring the amp clears customs okay may be worth it.

Call and find out what they charge, and what that extra money gets you.

Why is this so complicated? Why can't they just ship it and you pay duties? People buy from all over the world everyday. I've bought from Singapore, Japan, Europe ...

I don't know, just telling you how it is.
