I recently posted that my hdd failed. I didnt make any back ups yes I know I should of you can critize later. Anyway I sent it off to a repair and recovery center. They ran diagnostics on it. No luck on getting anything. I was wondering if I sent it to have it opened in a clean room would there be anymore chance of it comming off. The drive still works. The guy told me the partition table is gone or messed up. I dont care bout cost. If anyone can please let me know if they open it up can they get the info off or something you know. Thx

If you sent the drive to some recovery service, I would have thought they would have the capabilities to do what you want.
What's the name of the place you used?

I sent it to a local repair office that My answering service lady uses and he then sent it off. I was just wondering if they opened the drive would they have more luck getting data off then just running programs.

FWIW I have used dave in the past and he was very helpful and I recommend you give him a call before you make a final decision. His prices and service beat the big guys by a wide margin.

When you have a hdd taken apart to get data off for w/e reason am I correct in assuming that you cant have it put back together and have it work normal? Also if the partition is damaged then is the data on the partition gone as well or is only the partition files that tell it how to work i guess only damaged and the files and data on it fine? Like if it was to be taken aparat completely it would be able to be retrieveable?

I would never use a re-assembled hard drive for anything but grabbing lost data. Hard drives are SO CHEAP. Why take a chance of losing MORE DATA with a cobbled-together drive? That drive will never be as good as it was when it came from the factory.

Why?

All these questions would be better asked to your recovery company.

If the drive has to be taken apart (to work on motor or platters or heads) then it WILL be put back together enough to get it spinning and to read off the data.

If this doesn't answer your question, then I don't understand your question and I suggest you re-phrase it.

Yes that answered my question. I apologize if I wasnt clear enough I just wasnt sure what the process involved or what was possible after it was done. I was always under the impression that after they take it apart you cant put it back together in working order like it was when it was purchased.

I have used Partition Table Doctor 3.0 with success in the past. It repairs the Partition Table. Maybe worth a shot. Can't see how it would hurt.

Im not exactly sure what he did. Because I dont talk to him directly my parents do because its all their I guess you can say business anyway. He said he ran a bunch of stuff on it and said there was nothing he found in terms of data. But I was wondering why he didnt try to recover the partition table but thats just me hes the "expert" im not. So I guess he just sent it off to be taken apart and theyll try it there as well.
