Hello all, :D
I hope I'm in the right section.
Last week I bought a gaming pc (I selected the parts and the guy in the store built it for me :D ), here are the components that I have :
CPU: Intel Core I5 2500k 3.30ghz lga 1155
Motherboard : MSI P67A-GD55 (B3)
Graphics card : Asus ENGTX 560 TI DCII 2DI 1GD5 ( no, not the TOP card )
HDD : WDC W5000AAKX-001CA0 500GB SATA III ( I think )
Case : Cooler Master Centurion 590 ( with windowed side panel )

At first I've chosen the corsair dominator gt cmt4gx3m2a2133c9 ddr3 4gb kit with the airflow fan that comes with it, and for the PSU the cooler master Silent pro M850w ( huge overkill I know, but where I live there is not much choice for hardware expecially for PSU's and cases , and that's the reason why I chose it and the case also - although the cm590 came with 1 front 120 mm LED fan on the front and one exhaust 120 mm at the rear and another 120 mm intake fan on the side panel facing the graphics card- which I think is quite good.

But there is a problem, I opened cpu-z and saw that the memory modules installed were CMT6GX3M3A2000C8 @ 1333 mhz and 9-10-10-27  I turned off the pc and removed them to check and they were indeed 2 sticks from a triple channel 6gb kit :\
I googled them and read that they have issues reaching higher speeds than 1333 mhz  I tried it via the bios and set them to 1600mhz, after 10 minutes prime95 shut down all by itself  I lowered the frequency to 1333 and changed the timings to 9-9-9-24 result : cpu-z 1.58 hangs at monitoring during it's loading and the process doesn't want to shut down even via the task manager and uses 25-30% of my cpu, so I put everything on to default and ran prime95 during 3 hours and it was stable. However cpu-z keeps hanging at monitoring, so I changed to ver 1.57 and everything ran fine till today.
I contacted the guy who built the pc and he told me that he didn't pay attention  although he offred me to change for a 8gb 1600mhz Vengeance kit from corsair or kingston hyper x 4gb.

So my question about the RAM is : which kit would be better to go with assuming that I plan to overclock to 1866 mhz and it would be great if I could do some 8-8-8-24 or even 7-7-7-24 but keeping the DRAM voltage below 1.65v ? also do I realy need the Airflow fan on RAM ? considering that in the future I plan to buy a cooler master hyper 212 plus or a Thermalright mux-120 for my cpu.

problem n°2 ( I know it's getting very long, sorry) I found out that he put a Club 3d csp-d850cb PSU  and he told that this model is better than the silent pro m850w that I've chosen  . After some researches i found out that this is acutally an Andyson E series/ Nuclear 950 psu and the silent pro is either an fsp or enhance psu. So my question about the PSU is : Shoud I change it for the silent pro or keep it ?

notes :
-I didn't overclock ( cpu @ stock, gpu : 830/1660/2004 mhz)
-my temps according to Realtemp and aida64 are :
idle: cpu between 38-40° ( each core ) and at full load : 70-72°
gpu : using msi afterburner : idle 36-39° full load : 67-69°
-all settings in the bios originally set at Auto were not changed.
- my bios is AMI ver 1.9
-I downloaded HW monitor 3 days ago and it worked perfectly till yesterday, when I start it the window shows up but it's empty and uses 25-30% of my cpu.
- cpu-z ver 1.57 hangs at monitoring when I run it in the same time or after I close Aida64.
-This is my first build for gaming, I run windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Hopefully I'll get some answers to help me out as I'm very confused

Thank you in advance for reading and answering :)

Choose tighter timings over mhz and get 1.5v modules. SB doesnt like 1.65v ones infact you are specifically told not to install ram that requires over 1.5v

If the guy in the store screwed me by swapping two cheap ass parts for what I had originally picked out, I would just send the whole damn thing back for a refund.

1. There's nothing really wrong with DDR3 1333 in a Sandy Bridge build, and you gain very little benefit from faster memory. However, you did pay good money for the faster memory, so make sure that you get it.

2. Andyson == Crap. FSP and Enhance aren't that good, but they aren't total crap either. Same deal here, make sure you get what you paid for.

Hi,
at first thanks for the replies,
about the RAM I'll look after the GT's I picked out at first, if there is no chance getting them I'll choose the Vengeance kit as they are 1.5v and request a return of the extra money.
For the PSU I'll wait to see if i can get my hand on a TX V2 series from Corsair ( they're built by Seasonic, right ? ) otherwise I'll insist on getting the silent pro.

NB : For those who have experienced the cpu-z problem and haven't found the solution yet : this problem happens when Aida64 is running, just open the config.ini file in the cpu-z directory and change the value "sensor=1" to "sensor=0" without the "" . It will run normally and displaying the Core VID instead of the Core Voltage though.

Andyson isn't the worst of the worst, but I'd never put one in my computer.

by default ram runs at SPD. for performance ram, SPD is often not the same as the sticker rating on the modules. SPD is sort of a failsafe position.

you got taken getting sold performance ram for a sandy bridge. anything above 1333 is a complete waste. exchange that 4 GB kit for at least 8 GB of something rated slower.

edit: now i see you were cheated. go get your money back, file complaint with credit card company, etc.

edit2: with SB, as long as it's 1333 or faster pick the larger size over the speed.

Hi again,
Thank you all for the valuable informations :p
Tomorrow I'll go to the store to see what I can get and when. If it's cheaper than what I have now I'll of course get back the extra spent money.
I'll keep in mind the infos about the RAM in SB :)
@ SLK I already read that review and it seems that the product is pretty decent, just wanted to be sure about it :p thanks for the link :p

I'll keep you informed about it :)

I honestly don't think Andyson makes crap PSUs. And I would like to see proof of this then I can eat my words. :p

Every manufacturer makes a faulty unit at some point in time and the reviews of the Andyson units don't seem bad at all.

Your Club 3d is probably similar to this...

OK, I was probably a little harsh, I was just in annoyed mood cause the OP got cheated. It a decent cheap unit, but I'd still rather have the Cooler Master (for the warranty).

Yeah, the TX is a good unit. Take a little of your own out of the crooked shopkeeper's hide. ;)

Hi,
I went to the guy, It seems that if I'm lucky I'll get the Corsair 850w TX V2. here is the link at jhonnyguru's conclusion http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story5&reid=218
The one problem is I'm not sure 100% and it's for Monday. :\
For the RAM the vengeance kit is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233147 Although I heard problems (again :( ) about it hitting cl8 @ 1.5v 1600mhz. So what do you think ? thanks :)

EDIT : Also I found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104223 although it's 1.65v, just to inform :)

Yes, some RAM does have trouble hitting it's rated speeds at 1.5V. I would just drop it back to CAS 9 rather than raise the voltage though. There is very little difference between CAS 8 and CAS 9.

Ok so I'll get that and keep you informed when I'll install it and about it's stability :p

Thank you for your support :)
