Important message about Dell and UPS!

GoingUp

I just got off the phone with UPS for the 4th time concerning the refusal of a Dell delivery by me. Dell screwed me on some financing so I rejected the delivery of the laptop they sent me. I told UPS to ship it back to Dell. Upon checking the status page of the tracking number, I see that the laptop is being held for customer pickup. I finally cleared everything up with UPS and this is what I was told.

It is the UPS corporate policy to hold any refused packages from Dell for 5 business days before shipping them back to Dell. This is because of the huge shipping contract that Dell has with UPS. It doesn't matter if you leave a note on the door, call in or refuse delivery of the package from Dell in person. UPS will hold the package for 5 business days no matter what. This has a potential to screw some people based on the 21 day return policy that Dell now has. It might be better for you to accept the package and then pay for shipping back to make sure you get your refund.

wow, thats a load of crap... I still cant believe how long it takes for them to get a system out the door... its insane!

Yea. My computer was in the "boxing stage" for 4 days before it shipped. The boxing stage is the shipment of it from Malyasia to the US.

BTW so you all know the "21 day satisfaction or refund guarentee" from Dell starts the day the laptop was shipped. So having UPS hold the thing for 5 business days can really screw someone if they just want it refused, especially around the holiday season.

As a better example and because I just got off the phone with UPS....

My package was shipped on the 3rd, arrived on the 9th b/c of a weekend. Went on hold on the 10th. It wont ship out until the 17th b/c of the weekend. 5 business days back to dell gets it there on the 24th. Exactly 21 days. And thats without additional holidays interfering.

IMO, if you refuse the package, Dell should have no choice but to refund your CC, otherwise they would face an automatic chargeback.

wait... so dell tells UPS to hold for 5 days, so that you may not be able to return it within the 21 days despite your good-faith efforts? sounds like there will be lawsuits brewing.
